I've been dying to try this place for months and today, when the Mitre pub closed its kitchen 35 minutes early, I thought this was my chance! I and my partner were ravenous and up for a great meal. We went to Julie's and decided on the fish pie and cod with lentils. Service was fine. Pleasant, efficient, helpful. Our starter of calamari arrived. It was seven calamari rings....so I had three. Hardly a starter. My fish arrived on, what can only be described as a paucity of lentils. I actually ate every single lentil on my plate and at a whopping 19 GBP for this dish, we estimate the cost per lentil to be around 34p. I have never been this famished AFTER two 'courses'. We were so put off by the outrages portion sizes and grossly inflated prices, that we ended it there.
So sad, too. Such lovely staff and great location. I'm off to Subway now for my next course.

We went in a group (around 15 people) last Friday and it was one of the worst dinner I had in London since years, and by far the worst value for money experience I have ever had. Food and wine were just terrible, the staff was amateurish and the bill was £64 per person. Flushing my money into the loo would have been a clever choice. Never never go to this restaurant.

Our families have been going to Julie's for 35 years and were incredibly disappointed by our meal last night.
Initially the waitress had no idea what was not available on the menu and having decided from the limited choice, the entire party was shocked by the pathetic starter portions and general blandness...
When the main courses arrived, two of our guests who had ordered haddock found that the decorative grease proof paper had become soggy and attached to the fish, thus accidentally being eaten.
The service was poor and had clearly lost the lovely charm and personality for which it is famous and successful for.
Very bad Value for money and certainly an old favorite lost.
Fortunately Notting hill has plenty of great alternatives.

For twenty years I loved this place! Its gone into mad decline-food was appauling and service shocking last time I ate there. What on earth happened? Awful now-so so sad about losing my quiet steady place to have a quiet good romantic dinner. Never again.

It is so reassuring when old favourites maintain their standards. I remember when Julie Hodge first opened her wonderfully timeless restaurant...could it really be 30 years ago???
I dined with friends last week and all the favourites were still on the menu and the 'shabby chic' decor was just as comforting.
The staff were friendly and efficient, the clientel as ever eclectic, (including Prince William and glamorous Kate Middleton discreetly dining in a booth) and the menu as tempting as ever..... proper portions, quality engredients (loved the lamb) and sensibly priced wines.

The food never suprises at Julies Restaurant, it does exactly what it says on the tin and is perfectly acceptable. The male staff at Julies Restaurant (the girls are fine) are without doubt the rudest I have ever encountered in any London restaurant.

I live nearby, eat out once or twice a week and have only been there three times in seven years because of their attitude, particularly of the guy in the bar. What an unpleasant chap!

I couldn't agree more. I'm just back from an evening spent at Julie's. Whilst the food was standard fare (if a bit pricey), I felt incensed to write as I have never experienced such bad, no, outwardly aggressive service as I did tonight. I wonder what the patron would think if she/he saw their staff behaving like that.

I would understand it if this place were a true culinary treat, but it's not. It's average food with high pretentions. My Onion soup watery with too many dried herbs. My lamb was overcooked and expensive.

I don't usually blog. I just can't believe how rude the staff were. I hope this warns other customers to stay away.

Julie's ticks all the boxes - good food, good wine, and somewhere to put the kids on Sunday (they have a creche in operation). Julie's decor isn't typically wine bar-ish - it's more Moroccan, but it's cosy and friendly and just a lovely place to relax.
