The ViewLondon Review
Shepherds Bush is only 10 minutes away from Central London – still, most of you will need a good reason to visit that part of London. K Lounge at the 220-bedroom K West Hotel could be the answer!
The Venue
Making your way through the impressive and funky revolving doors of K West Hotel, you find yourself walking straight into K Lounge. The lobby bar is divided into two – first is the seating area, dominated by leather and wooden furniture and consisting of a mix of a dozen large and small tables with fairly basic but comfortable seats. The overall impression is of a minimalist and cosy space, rather informal and not as daunting as some other lobby bars in Central London. The very impressive long bar with green lighting all along is by far the main highlight of the space. There are also some white curtains that run from the top of the mezzanine restaurant, Kanteen, and go all the way behind the bar – very atmospheric.
All the eyes are drawn to the bartenders mixing up some cocktails and promising to surprise and tease your tastebuds. At the other end of the bar, near the staircase leading to Kanteen, you will find abstract artwork, stones, and a very funky fire running along the wall.
The Atmosphere
The clientele of K Lounge is dominated by hotel guests – mainly from the UK and USA. DJ nights are organised for them on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar is meant to be the place where creative people working in the recording studios nearby meet up for unofficial spontaneous parties until 2am. If you’re lucky, you may even rub elbows with some celebrities such as Girls Aloud or Franz Ferdinand. Expect the bar and restaurant to lack atmosphere at more quiet times, though.
The Drink
The menu is exhaustive at K Lounge without being too lengthy – you will find the old school cocktails available from a very reasonable £6.50 if you’re in for a classic cocktail as well as a few newbies. Be sure to try the Funky Bitch, the Climax (a very rich but exquisite mix of creme de banane, creme de cacao, triple sec, Amaretto, vodka and double cream) or the Angels Kiss.
The Last Word
K Lounge is definitely a nice venue for some drinks before or after dinner, especially if you want to impress a date – the bar and the cocktails definitely justify a visit.
