Kenza is ok. Not that special although the decor is quite nice. Basically once you've finished your main meal its almost as if they are ready to give you the boot! The waiters almost stand there watching you when you are eating! quite uncomfortable! I went there to celebrate birthday and we wanted to stay and watch the belly dance performance and we thought instead of occupying a table we could move to the lounge and have some drinks... however the manager was extremely rude! Although there were seating places in the lounge when we asked to move to the lounge he brushed it off, shrugged his shoulders and said 'oh but i dont know, i dont know, you have to ask around' and he basically left us standing there and walked away!
Altogether the experience was just ok. Food was not anything special either but very expensive. I enjoyed the starter very mcuh but that was about it! I guess i can recommed just going to the lounge area and having the snacks there since the restaurant aspect was not all that! Belly dancers were pretty cool though.
I have visited Kenza on several occasions and have always ordered the Mashawy Feast for 2. The food here is good, although you won't leave feeling stuffed to the brim, I do think that the portions are fair. This place offers something different and the decor is very nice. The belly dancers are not intrusive and soon get the message if your not interested. The belly dancing will last for around 10 - 15 minutes with 3 belly dancers. The starters are nice and tasty! I do understand what other reviews say about the portion sizes for the mains being small. The main meals are usually served on a plaque and this is where the restaurant can skimp on portions as its all piled up and its only when you start to dish up you realise there is not as much food as there seems. For me I think the portions are just enough. A little bug bear of mine is receiving 1 Pitta each with your starter, usually you would receive a good supply of bread with this type of food. The desserts do not always include 1 piece for each person such as the Baklava but this doesn't bother me as we try little bits from each. I like this place is nice, I would dine here again as I know what to expect. It is worth a try and I do think that the quality of the food here is 5 out of 5 and has flavour. For some people the portions may be an issue. Give it a go as its different!
We have been twice before in small groups (both times in 2008) and were always impressed by generous portions and attentive service. The 3rd time was my 21st Birthday and it was AWFUL.
I had promised my party of 12 that it was worth paying £29.50 a head for the forementioned reasons. I was left embarrassed and apologising after our 3rd and final visit. Kenza has either gone VERY downhill or simply lower their standards dramatically when it comes to hosting larger groups.
As the meal progressed I had noticed that things seemed to be missing from the menu and that the portions weren't even half of what we'd been served in the past. I asked a waiter for a menu so that I could confirm my suspicions.
This never came. I have checked the menu since and have found that 2 dishes were missing from our meal! I tried to complain about portions twice but the front of house staff were dealing with a queue of customers both times. The worst of the portions were with the desserts.
I had been raving to my friends about the Baklawa but when it came there was only enough for 1 each. We sat there dividing up individual pieces into 3 so that most people could try all of the different types.
The ‘platter’ of fruit was a small bunch of red grapes and 3 strawberries on each.In addition to this, service was awful. I asked for my Rihana cocktail 3 times. My partner asked for his twice. My mother asked for hers and was given lemonade (no one had ordered lemonade). We had to ask for it again after it was sent back.
It finally arrived as she was leaving so she only managed a couple of sips before paying for it.I emailed the restuarant for an apology within a few days yet I was ignored. I sent another email 10 days later which eventually got a reply.
I was told that my complaint was being investigated and that I would be contacted soon. It's been 3 weeks and still nothing.
This place is really nice!
Service, decoration, food, ambiance, are all in league 1.
I definitely recommend this place.
I've eaten at Kenza on 3 different occasions - all of which have been extremely positive.
Yes, the last reviewer is quite right in saying it is on the expensive side, however with a 50% off taste London card it makes it a good deal cheaper than most places in the city.
The range of mezze is fantastic, namely the tasty Beiruty Hummus and I think I've tried all of the meat dishes now which are great.
Service is very good and the belly dancers are a nice touch too!
Would I recommend this restaurant NO. Did I think it was value for money NO.We booked a few weeks in advance as it was for a birthday and we wanted a booth. Once we got out of our taxi in Devonshire Square the hunt was on for the restaurant...... hidden away behind locked gates we could see a sign but no signs telling you how to get to it around the building works. So no, Devonshire Square is not the best address to go by to find it. Once we found the front entrance we followed the stairs down and were now impressed......
Sadly that didn’t last. Firstly we didn't get a booth, they had all been 'allocated'.... when I wondered, a number of them were still empty. We were seated right next to the kitchen entrance so not in what I would call the fully themed area and my husband chair was constantly knocked by the servers. The belly dancers, 3 of them not 7 as someone else reported in a review were entertaining but very brief and we only saw them the once during a the evening…….a Saturday night!!The food was un-inspiring and very poor portions, highlighted even more so when the bill arrived costing us over £40 pp and we weren’t even full, and with a service charge of £24.
Our meal only consisted of a starter and main each… for the starter we each chose a dish and decided to share which was ok but nothing exciting and very small portions. As for the main courses firstly the guys both chose lamb and rice which hardly filled the plate, both were unimpressed, another of the dishes chosen was a fish dish and after the amount of questions we had asked prior to ordering I would have expected the waiter to check if she wanted anything to accompany that rather than just leave us to find out it was fish and fish only…… for £18.
Sadly we were very disappointed with our experience at Kenza, none of us would recommend it to anyone and we still can’t believe we paid for the overpriced under nourishing meal.
If you ever saw the movie "Eyes wide shut", you will recognize the place from the movie :-)
Good service, a bit hard to find.
Price is a bit too high for the quality of the food.
I have the feeling the food comes on the second place in this restaurant.
The belly dancers were HOT!!!!!!!
