Had an awesome time here last Saturday. The combo of great cocktails and wicked tunes had everyone dancing (woke up with sore muscles everywhere!) A good place for a late night on Upper St. Just make sure you bring your ID as the doorman asked (I'm 26!).

I want to give this place no star, but it won't let me.

After promising to reserve an area for a large party booking, they cancelled on us the night before. Bunch of b@~~ards.

Don't go here...they don't deserve the business.

I really can't describe how much I disagree with the last reviewer! I hadn't been to the Keston Lodge before last Saturday but nothing will be keeping me away after the night me and my mates had on the 24th April! We arrived about 9pm and from start to finish we had a fantastic night. Even the bouncers were unusually friendly as the ushered us in, nothing like the goons other bars seem to love employing.

The place wasn't too busy when we arrived which gave us the chance to squat on the end someone else's table and enjoy a few first pints (price incidentally is pretty competitive for islington 3.40 a pint).

Anyway by 10pm the place was filling up, the crowd was friendly, everyone mingling and loads of girls! The staff were amazing considering how busy it was - I never waited more than a few minutes for a drink. The idea they are too cool to serve you is utter rubbish, they were all busting a gut on Saturday and were never rude or unhelpful even when my silly friend mislaid her coat!

Best bar in Angel, best night I've had in ages. See you next week!

I have been going to the Keston Lodge for a few years now and have to say that sadly of late it has become a far too pretentious for my liking. If you fancy going to a bar where the staff can't be bothered with you, is far too overcrowded, plays banging uncomprehensible music and 15 men for every woman then the Keston is the place for you. I'd say try some of the other bars on Upper Street intstead as you will have a far better time.

Headed to Keston for a friends birthday on a Thursday night. Soon realised that cocktails are 2 for 1 on a Thursday which was awesome!

There was a DJ later in the evening. Really recommend this place, great vibe and good banter with the bar staff.

Thanks for the Friday hangover at work!!!

Sunday's my favourite day of the week, the day that i get nurse my hangover with a glass of wine, some food and a paper.

This was my plan last weekend, unfortunately it didn't last long.

I headed to the Keston Lodge with some (very hungover) friends and we grabbed a bite to eat and nestled into the sofa's for a few drinks, before we knew it the place was transformed into a live music venue.

I've never seen this here before but it was great, there was an awesome buzz around the whole venue, the place was busy but not packed and it turned out to be a great evening, some good live acts and some DJs filling the gaps in between, all helped by some cheap cocktails.

Suffice to say Monday morning wasn't so pleasant. Looking forward to the next one.

Having been a regular visitor at the keston lodge for over a year now, I find the lastest review a little hard
to take in, I have never had a bad meal or experience in there. Sure the service can be a little relaxed
at times, and when it's busy there may be a longer delay than usual, but the food has always been great.

I was only in there this week with my partner and we both had a great meal from their new menu, the service was fine
and the food arrived within 15mins!

The staff have always been great, friendly and polite, fair enough they seem to have a laugh and a joke behind the
bar but who wouldn't. My only negative comment is that there is no real table service, you have to order both your
drinks and food from the bar...

This aside I would recomend the Keston Lodge to anyone!

Do yourself a favour.... NEVET EAT AT THE KESTON LODGE!A group of 8 of us headed there for a Sunday Roast and were disapointed on every level. The starters came at the same time or after the main courses, the roasts were stone cold and one meal never arrived at all.

The worst part of it was the service and the attitude of the staff and the Manager. 3 roast dinners arrived with no roast potatoes! When we mentioned this to the bar staff, one of them eventually came over with a bowl of potatoes, threw them down on the table and said "better?", sarcastically.Awful food, awful service, don't waste your time!

Myself and a few girlfriends of mine decided to head to the Keston lodge for a quick bite to eat before finishing our Christmas shopping. We were greeted by a very friendly bar man. We ordered our food and it was served within 15miutes, although the place wasn’t that busy we were still impressed. I had the homemade pie and it was honestly one of the best pie’s I have ever had, the mash wasn’t bad either. To top it all off when we ordered coffees we were told that they came free with lunch…..thanks very much!

Im surprised at the latest reviews of keston. Im not really the sort of person that would usually document my nights out [good or bad] or even read reviews to decide where to go, but i feel i had to say something.
Ive been to keston alot, i work in the area and have visited for various different reasons; after work drinks, leaving parties etc. and although it is not perfect i have never experienced anything like what the previous reviews describe.
The atmosphere is always warm and friendly, the music is great, much more interesting than the middle of the road sludge that gets churned out in other venues in the area. The service can slow down a bit when its busy, but this is clearly due to the place being 'busy' and probably doing quite well. The real beauty of the keston is its lack of pretension, which seems to attract normal people like me who want a good time at good value. I will definitely be going back.

The service was terrible, with three girls standing behind the bar and talking, we managed to sit directly infront of them with finished plates for over 40 minutes, in the end we placed them at the bar ourselves, with a "thankyou" from the cook.

Our table was so wobby that our cocktails were in danger of spilling too, we ended up changing tables and moved to a table which, once again, the glasses were not picked up (no one had been sitting there for about 10 minutes) and the table was dripping wet, not realising this i ruined my make-up bag :(

But that was nothing compared to the shoddy service! It was as if they really didn't like serving people in this place and to be honest, walking in i felt like i was interrupting a private party.

The decor is of course nice and inviting, but if the manager's not in I wouldn't recommend I'm afraid. Not for £7 per drink anyway.

As a resident of Angel I find it quite sad that this venue has deteriorated so quickly. Today the sunday service was so dreadful, the food took over 45 mins to arrive and then 2 of the three dishes were cold. The waiter minced about with his trousers hanging well below his underwear and the waitress sat staring into space. I will not be going back.

As a resident of Angel I have never, until last night, been to Keston Lodge before. And I never will again. A bar and restaurant that boasts, Waitress Service Is Back should surely provide a decent waitress service.

We were a table of four people on a mildly busy Thursday evening. One of our starters was forgotten and our waitress (or any other waitress) was nowhere to be seen until the other starter plates were cleared. When this was mentioned to the waitress it was met with excuses like, You said you didn’t want a starter, and, We are very busy. No main course plates or empty glasses were cleared. We ended up collecting our first bottle of wine from the bar downstairs.

The food was average. Maybe Keston Lodge is a nice place to have a few drinks in the evening but I’d never go back there to find out. Rubbish!

I visited Keston Lodge at the weekend for a birthday celebration. The roasts were amazing, and the bar and table service was brilliant - they took the time to make you feel welcome and went out of their way to help where ever they could.

We only planned on having lunch, but ended up staying well into the evening. The cocktails were too good to leave!

I'm new to the Islington area, but I would definitely recommend going to Keston Lodge - it wins hands down in comparison to a lot of the other bars in the area. I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as me and my friends did!

I had a brilliant day (and evening!) at Keston Lodge at the weekend. The roasts were amazing, definitely worth their weight!

Cocktails were good and the bar staff (albeit rushed off their feet) were brilliant, they always did their best to ensure people were happy. As i'm an Islington resident, I would definitely recommend Keston Lodge as the place to go if you are in Islington - it wins hands down in comparison to a lot of other bars in the area.

I hope you enjoy it as much as i am now i've found it!

I went to Keston Lodge yesterday as part of a pre-booked party for Sunday lunch and was not at all impressed. It has nice surroundings and staff who are severely let down by the kitchen. They managed to make a poor meal of Square Pies for some of my fellow diners as everything was served (after a wait of biblical proportions) tepid to cold, hence the phalanx of plates sent straight back to the kitchen to be re-heated!

I opted for roast beef which was late, luke warm and leathery. It appeared to have been cooked like a very well-done steak, as all sides of the thick slab were charred. It was remorselessly hard and dry. The menu proudly trumpets that the meat is all supplied by a local butcher, but I doubt that the butcher would want this kind of advert! The roast potatoes were geologically tough and some were unidentifiably distorted by god knows what kind of a process they'd been through, like something unearthed at Pompeii.

Don't waste a precious Sunday or your money at Keston Lodge!

Keston Lodge was one of the most appalling meals I have had in London. A table was booked for 2pm a week in advance. On arriving we were told that the kitchen was busy and we would not be able to order until 3.30pm. The bar staff were fantastic so it wasn't hard to pass the time. We ordered at about 3.45pm and then did not receive the first order until an hour later.

The other meals continued to come out at different times, resulting in people eating out of sync. The final two came at around 5.45pm. In addition one of these was inedible - a roast burnt to a crisp with a hair baked into the charcol.

Most of the food was bad to average. The waitress was clearly run off her feet and lacking experience and training. All in all Keston Lodge was a terrible experience.

Keston Lodge is a nice place, but I think it's probably better for a drink than an evening meal. It was a bit too busy when we went on a Friday night.

Better to go to Keston Lodge early evening or for lunch.

Keston Lodge is one of the few places I hadn't yet uncovered in Upper Street, and I'm glad I have now. A great place for a lazy weekend lunch, lounging on the sofas in the front. The homemade pies are fantastic and come with chips, veg and a great gravy. There are two types of veggie pies that are delicious (gravy is veggie) as well as several meaty ones that I'm told are equally delicious. The fruit and vegetable juices are also really soothing, especially if you're recovering from the night before. The only let down is the snooty, unhelpful bar staff, who seem to want to do anything but serve you. The waitress, however, is very nice and you can order everything from her instead. The venue is spacious, modern, relaxing, and comfortable (if you can get a seat - it did fill up quickly from 5pm onwards). But I believe you can reserve tables if you phone ahead.
