I find that this lacks the atmosphere that you would expect having read the write up. It has now turned into a souless restaurant that has a bar in it. When you talk of a pub with roaring fires etc you are talking of the King Eddy (as it was known) from ten years ago. At this time you would find people from all nationalities and walks of life drinking side by side. It was not uncommon for the local CID to be chatting to drinkers about arresting there brother only to then move on to talk about how nice Bishops Finger is!!! You don't find that in a pub often.Having been a regular in the Eddy and returning recently I would say it has lost it's charm. The regular faces that helped make this pub as popular as it was in past by creating the welcoming charm have long gone. Moved on to pubs which try less hard to impress with decor and menus, you may as well go to a plastic pub and save money! There could still be hope for this establishment yet, landlord take note, you are in Stratford, East London not upon-Avon. Good beer speaks more than food in this type of pub, bring back the Ale.Like the Murphy's I'm not Bitter.

Disappointing meal here. The starters were good, triple cooked chips.
The main courses, well...
The triple cooked chips were like a curates' egg, cooked in parts, but raw in others.
The sausage and mash; the gravy was burnt and bitter and the mash lacked either butter or cream to moisten.
Pricey for the quality of food served.

My wife and I went to the King Edward for our anniversary last week and had a really nice evening. The food was tasty and our waiter was really attentive and chatty.

It wasn't too pricey but we still felt like we'd had a proper evening out! The King Edward's good for a relaxing meal on a special occasion.

King Edward VII in Stratford is one of the best pubs in the East End. The food and beer is fantastic. They have a restaurant which again serves great food with a really good selection of wines.

The atmosphere is always friendly, it's relaxing and for once you actually feel that it's run by people that know what they are doing and that care. King Edward VII is a definite must go to if you are in that side of town.

The King Eddy is a popular local which retains the old style wood bars of its listed building. It now serves a good selection of real ales together with bar food - a little pricey - and a new, posher restaurant Upstairs. Friendly locals abound but strangers and passers by are always welcome, there is a good mix of age, race and gender and the management have been known to throw people out for making racist comments, a refreshing attitude in the middle of East London.
