The Kings Arms is an honest, good-looking pub with both tradition and a touch of modernity for entertainment.

The Venue
Located off Theobalds Road, the Kings Arms fits in well with the rows of perfect houses that line the street. Its brick and wood facade gives the feel that it was here long before everything else was built around it. Once inside, if you can force your way onto the table to the far right of the door, you’ll be happy basking by the bouncing flames in the marble and brick fireplace.

The rest of the tables are set up a little too generically. There’s a clear and present danger of the area by the bar becoming a no mans land of wasted space as the tables and chairs are pushed up against the windows. The white of the walls and the black details are tasteful enough and there’s nothing not to like.

The Atmosphere
The large windows let a lot of light into the bar and the vitamin D does its job, as the people are happy as only the healthy can be. The crowd can be very ‘raah’ and a touch public school, but if you can block and filter the sounds of other people’s conversations you’ll be okay. There’s definitely a local feel to the Kings Arms, and the clear presence of existing groups that prowl and dominate that no mans land by night. The social side of things is further advanced by the flat screen TV and projector screen hanging down, plus Monday night’s free pool and darts in the upstairs games room.

The Food
The Kings Arms has a full Thai menu available between 12pm-3pm and 5pm-12am Monday to Friday. The main courses cost around £6 and range between green curry, panang, pad kra pao stir fry and mixed fried rice dishes. If you don’t fancy a meal in the pub then you can take it away and have a drink while you wait.

The Drink
The wooden bar proudly serves a small but fair selection of draught lagers. There is Staropramen, Becks Vier, San Miguel and Stella and the quality of London Pride and Timothy Taylor Landlord ales.

The Last Word
The Kings Arms is a relaxed pub, perfect for leisurely drinking with the added bonus of an upstairs games room.
