Renovated in 2008, the new management have turned this place from a pub like any other to a community spirited gastropub.

The Venue
Within a minute’s walk from the station, you will find The Ladywell Tavern: a humble pub with a charming 'rough around the edges' feel. The olive green walls, brick fireplace and random old suitcase in the corner add character to the place and there are plenty of tables, chairs and sofas to sprawl out on inside. Or if the mood takes you, you can enjoy a drink out on the garden patio – a small but very pleasant space for sunny days

The Atmosphere
The management at The Ladywell embrace the local community, spurring a welcoming and intriguing atmosphere. They host various music nights on a Saturday, reeling in the local talent for live sets and inviting visitors to bring their own vinyl collection along for an eclectic mix of recordings. If you’re into art, take a peek at their gallery around the back, where a host of local talent waits to be explored. Outside of the music nights, this place offers a quiet retreat for a drink or dinner and a truly sincere welcome from the staff.

The Food
The food at The Ladywell exceeds expectations for pub grub. Their newly launched stone-baked pizzas are a delight. With crispy bases and fresh toppings (from £6.95), they're sure to become a favourite. Alternatively you can try the salmon fishcakes. Served with mango and chilli, they have the perfect balance of sweetness and spice (£8.95). There are plenty of the usual choices to be had as well, from sausage and mash (£7.05) to a full Sunday roast (from £9). The management take pride in what they serve here and it shows.

The Drink
The wine list is as carefully chosen as the food, with a range of reds, whites and sparklings and a few roses to choose from. The Rioja Blanco (£16 a bottle) is a particularly refreshing drink to have alongside your meal, or just alongside a chat with friends. If you’ve had your fill of wine, there are always the cocktails to discover, ranging from £7-£8.50 - a reasonable price as they use high quality spirits in the mixes. Choose from a classic Bloody Mary to a Hot Blonde with a sour twist – a special concoction of the management’s. Ale drinkers will appreciate the monthly specials, or if it’s beer or cider you’re after, the selection from Amstel to Addlestones should suit most tastes.

The Last Word
The Ladywell is made genuinely inviting by the management and is an unexpectedly great place to eat. A real diamond in the rough.
