A cosy little piece of France in the heart of Covent Garden.

The Venue
Seating around 30 customers, this cosy little romantic bistro is a welcome haven on a cold winter’s evening. The dark mahogany wood of the tables, banquettes and candlelight make it a place you want to linger in.

The Atmosphere
Le Garrick has a buzz about it, especially early evening when pre-theatre diners gather to take advantage of the good value set dinner. Service is discreet but attentive from the predominantly French staff and you don’t feel rushed.

The Food
Don’t come here expecting to take your taste buds on a culinary adventure; expect instead well-executed, tasty, typical French bistro fare. Starters include a soup of the day, mussels, pate and a charcuterie sharing plate with prices ranging from £4.95 to £7.95 on average while a duck confit and rack of lamb feature among the main courses. There is also a comprehensive steak menu. This is complemented by a daily changing special where you can expect to see dishes such as coq au vin or sausages with lentils.

Prices for a main course range from £9.95 to £18.95 which is why the set lunch/pre-theatre/post-theatre menu priced at £12.95 for two courses and £15.95 for three holds such appeal. Choose from either the soup or pate to start, followed by an onglet steak or mussels and chips. The steak is well cooked and tender but if you don’t eat meat you’re a bit out of luck – the one drawback is the limited selection for vegetarians of just one main course, the Mediterranean vegetable couscous. Round the meal off with a satisfying dessert – the chocolate pot and lemon tart are both recommended.

The Drink
Wine is the order of the day here. All of the wine hails from France and you can expect to pay between £15 and £30 a bottle. You can also buy it by the carafe.

The Last Word
At Le Garrick you can enjoy some classic French fare and welcome respite from the hubbub of Covent Garden.
