The ViewLondon Review
This Wetherspoons pub is a kids dream - a cross between an adventure playground and what looks like an old library, you’ll have fun exploring all the different nooks and crannies when you step foot in here. Oh yeah, and they serve food and drink, too.The VenueOpposite the Tower of London, Liberty Bounds attracts tourists, office workers, and the odd beefeater (joke). There are loads of different levels and so many pillars and small private areas tucked away in various corners that you’ll have fun exploring the place. You can sit with the majority of the other diners opposite the bar or on the slightly elevated area that sits between the two entrances at the front. At the far end of the bar are a few secluded tables, tucked into various corners of the pub.
Up a big burly flight of steps and you’ll find some more tables and chairs ideal for dining. This is only a landing though. Follow the stairs up and round and you’ll find another bar and a whole new floor overlooking the two front doors and some of the diners below - this is where they suggest you dine if you have kids.
The decor is very interesting; it’s dark and warm but there are also nice little features dotted around the place. Some of the walls appear to be shelves stacked with old books, however, upon closer inspection you’ll find they’re dummy book spines but they add warmth and interest. There’s also an entrance at the back of the pub that you’ll probably come across when you go to the toilet, which in itself is a trip through stairwells and corridors that you wouldn’t have thought existed.
The AtmosphereThe carpeted floors of Liberty Bounds give the huge space a sense of warmth whilst the packed seats illustrate how popular the pub is. Most people are in groups, including tourists and office workers. There isn’t any music but then with so many conversations taking place at one the ambience takes care of itself.
The FoodYou’ll find a fairly substantial menu at Liberty Bounds, although it’s typical Wetherspoons grub. From jacket potatoes, pastas and salads to burgers, steaks and grills there should be something on the menu to whet your appetite. If you’re bringing the kids, they’ll be well catered for as well with the children’s menu. The food is well priced - a beer and burger with chips costs only £4.49.
The DrinkA pub filled with real ales, their regulars include Abbots, Spitfires, Pedigree and Green King IPA. On tap you’ll find Carling, Coors Light, and your usual John Smiths, Fosters, Kronenberg and Guinness. A small variety of coffees and teas are also available.
Last WordLiberty Bounds is very popular amongst the local office workers and those on their way to see Tower London. Ideal for the whole family, the kids will love the decor.
