Love this place! Just wish they'd clean their bloody toilets and put some locks in !
hi i visited lock 17 a few weeks ago with a large group of friends after being turned away from most of the venues for almost no apparent reason (please bear in mind we were a mixed group and are all over the age of thirty). on approching the door awaiting the infamous sorry were full we were greeted by a doorman who was not only polite (not to mention cocky) but actully seemed like he enjoyed his job. We were directed inside without any hassle and my god what a great venue. the staff were all very friendly and the three different bars to visit great. the only thing i could critisize is the ques at the bar but is to be expected in a venue of this size! i think a lot of the bars in camden could learn a lot from this place!
I took a large group of friends to Camden for my 21st birthday and after trying a few places we ended up in Lock 17. The outside area was closed when we arrived but there were 2 other bars playing music and a nightclub which are all connected.
Despite being very busy the staff were all really friendly and chilled and not stuck up and rude like some of the other places we visited. Even the doormen are friendly and Bob the bouncer is probably the coolest bouncer in London, he arranged a cab home for one of my male friends who was very tipsy by the end of the night and he was really brilliant with us. We are arranging another night out there soon as a couple of my friends want to give Bob another hug. Highly recommended.

I find it quite amusing hearing ladies moaning about the dirty toilets in the other reviews, now you know what men put up with in nearly every pub we go in. Lock 17 is really only half decent in the summer when you can sit outside and the bar staff in most of Camden pubs are moody and rude, arent all 18 and 19 year olds?
Worst Pub Food Ever!
I went there today lunch time with friends and although the place and drinks are fine, food was terrible.
After having waited for over an hour the food finally arrived. No-one at our table liked the food. They even managed to mess up my Chicken Cesar Salad (4 leafs of salad with barely any chicken on it -thanks god it was dry and yellowish anyway, barely any dressing but lots of old tasting croutons). Worst dish on the table was my friend's Fish and Chips....
I agree with previous comments, toilets were disgusting even in the middle of the day. I guess it's fine if you go there for a drink but I strongly advise not to order any food there!
I totally agree with the above comment regarding the ladies toilet. I also found the bar staff to be very rude and unhelpful. After a fantastic day exploring Camden, we thought we had found the perfect spot to rest with a drink- watching the boats come and go through the lock. Unfortunately this was ruined by a bar man with absolutely no concept of customer service. Unfortunately this seems to be a growing trend with bars in this area, maybe because of the location they think they can behave this way. I certainly would not be going back, and as a local would certainly not recommend other people to do so. There are much better bars in the area who give a warm welcome to customers.
I've been to Lock 17 a few times on various days/nights of the week. Weekends are very busy with good DJ. Its no nightclub and there's no dancefloor as such, but the music creates a lively atmosphere. The outside area is absolute quality, with its own bar on the terrace itself. Dingwalls is also excellent, having been to one or two gigs. I caught Ellie Goulding and Tinie Tempah there about one week before they hit the charts. The food is cheap and what can be expected for the price. Good burgers! With it being smack bang in the middle of Camden Market, I'd recommend it to anyone visiting for a weekend.
Awesome place, what a great summer location, went with friends, sat out on a terrace overlooking the canal, good cocktails, good music when we went inside later there was live music on.
Top stuff.
Been going there once in a while and liked the place for its space and music -good DJ yesterday- however, the ladies toilets experience has been one of the most horrific I ever had. Smell, bins overfilling, water/tissue all over the floor, seat broken, no hand soap, stupid/rude graffiti on the walls... pretty nasty picture!Kitchen and toilets should be the cleanest places in a bar/restaurant... so would you really order any food there? I didn’t! But I made an official complaint to the bar manager and nothing happened... This place should get a Hygiene/Health and Safety check!!!
