The ViewLondon Review
Located slap bang in the centre of Soho, you would be hard pushed to miss LVPO, although you could easily mistake it for an exclusive members-only club - and you couldn’t be more wrong. The VenueLVPO (pronounced lupo, meaning wolf in Trojan) is positioned on the corner of Dean Street and Romilly Street, with large windows that flood the front room with natural light during daylight hours, while the velvet drapes retain an ambiance of luxurious exclusivity.
Once inside, LVPO turns out to be a veritable tardis. The front bar gives way to a labyrinthine network of rooms, with cosy seating areas and snug alcoves, making it a good bet for getting a seat when the rest of soho is jam-packed. There are several function rooms and seating areas available for hire, and - great news for smokers - some outdoor seating at the front. This prime people-watching vantage point is the ideal place from which to soak up the vibrant atmosphere of soho.
The AtmosphereThe dark wood, ornate mirrors, and candlelit darkness give LVPO a welcoming, luxurious and intimate feel, while the disco balls and chandeliers add a touch of cheesy glam. Despite its late license, LVPO feels more like a bar than a club, and is as well suited to a pre-dinner cocktail as it is to a big night out. This is the sort of place where you might pop in for a quick drink after work and find yourself strutting your stuff on the dance floor at 3am!
While popular with the local media crowd for post-work drinks, the clientele is fairly mixed and the door policy pretty relaxed. The friendly bouncers tolerate jeans and trainers as long as you look smart. The bar staff are cool and slightly aloof, but the service is friendly and the cocktails expertly prepared.
The MusicResident DJs play an eclectic mix of music to suit most tastes, ranging from funk and RnB to house and pop tunes. The feel is always upbeat, but the music is quiet enough to chat earlier on in the evening, getting louder as the night goes on.
The FoodThere is a range of good quality bar snacks available to keep you going – all the usual suspects (nachos, potato skins, brushcetta), as well as more filling options like pizzas and quesadillas.
The DrinkThere is a huge selection of exceptionally good cocktails, priced very reasonably for a Central London club. All the classics are there, as well as original signature cocktails named after Greek Gods and created by the talented bar staff. The Gaea - a delicious and refreshing blend of Finlandia vodka, lychee and watermelon liqueurs, and freshly pressed watermelon - comes highly recommended. There is also a good range of non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’. The wine list is short but reasonably priced with most wines available by the glass. The pinot grigio rose is quite delicious and the perfect thing to sip on a summers evening.
The Last WordThis really is a haven of luxurious tranquility in the bustling heart of Soho. The cosy, intimate atmosphere, upbeat vibe and excellent value cocktails mean that, once you discover the joys of LVPO, you are likely to come back again and again.
