The ViewLondon Review
Marvel sits nestled along the bustling Fulham Road and brings the look and feel of a Shoreditch bar to Chelsea. The trendy and fresh interior, complete with a graffiti art feature wall, is the perfect setting to sip a well-made cocktail, and unwind to DJ sets and live music.
The Venue
This cool new bar is a great meeting place for Chelsea partygoers. As you enter the bar, you’ll spy the two main seating areas of sofas and stools around the edges and, most interestingly, the large graffiti art painted across the right hand side wall. In this revamped little venue the central space fills up throughout the night with chatting groups and later some dancing to the DJ sets.
The Music
You will find three very capable DJs – Sam Young, Chad Symonds and Bassan Ibellini – behind the decks at Marvel. Dropping a varied selection of beats, from deep house to forward-thinking disco, they’re keen to promote the fact that they have the license to play whatever they see fit, rather than having a venue owner breathing down their neck and telling them to play something ‘funky’. With regular work at clubs like Boujis, Bungalow 8 and Vendome, they definitely know how to work a well-heeled crowd.
The Atmosphere
There is a great buzz in the bar with like-minded music fans hanging out and catching some tunes. The decor makes Marvel a must-see for those passing, its quirky touches make it stand out from its peers. The bar staff are lovely and friendly and you can get served pretty quickly but you should come early or book if you’re looking for a table.
The Drink
The cocktails are the forte at Marvel and any fan won’t be disappointed by their extensive menu, which includes the likes of a Peach Mist and Honey Monster (both £6.50). A popular home fashioned potion aptly named the Marvel Martini is an indulgent winner with vanilla vodka blended with strawberries and cream, this one is priced at a slightly steeper £8.50. If cocktails aren’t your thing then you could always go for an Asahi on tap or by the bottle.
With shots including The Medicine Man (cognac, apple, lemon juice and vanilla) Exxon Petroleum (Patron XO with Kahlua and cream) and Crack Baby (vodka, French forest fruits, passion fruit and Champagne) the names themselves, let alone their ingredients, scream interesting concoctions worthy of this great new West London hangout.
The Last Word
This notable little hotspot is a perfect alternative to the cheesier venues in the area. Head down, enjoy the visual feast of the graffiti and artwork, sip on quality cocktails and listen to pro DJs at work.
