The ViewLondon Review
Located on busy Upper Street, Medicine Bar could have easily faded into the background – lost somewhere between the chain bars and restaurants. However, this funky venue is a welcome alternative to some of the blander bars that surround it.The VenueSmaller than its sister bar in Shoreditch, the Upper Street Medicine Bar is cosy and comfortable without sacrificing on style. The mix of deep, warm colours used in the decor and gloomy lighting creates an intimate feel. The funky interior makes a change from many of the harshly lit, modern chain bars that litter Upper Street.
The AtmosphereIf you go to Medicine Bar at the weekend be prepared for queues to get in and queues at the bar. Clearly a popular choice with the trendy Upper Street and Shoreditch brigade, it’s in an ideal location for a few drinks and a dance on a Saturday night – and the number of people squeezed into this little bar reflects that. If you can cope with waiting a little longer for your drink then there are a lot worse places to end up on a Saturday night.
Week nights are an altogether quieter, more sedate affair. Perfect for after work drinks. Funky house and soul music are played throughout the week, with good DJs making regular appearances.
The DrinkMedicine Bar is clearly working its name and location, with its drinks hitting the mid-range to expensive mark. However, great cocktails are on offer, as well as a good selection of wines and beers.
The Last WordFantastic music, good cocktails and a great location. Medicine Bar hits the mark on all counts.
