I have dinned here a few times in the past and have come to realise the manager has become greedy. the service is completely rushed, my plate was taken while I was still chewing! my chair was knocked four times and i never once had an apology, my coat was knocked to the floor, again no apology!
the tables are too close together as they have crammed too man in, hence the waiters bashing your chair! Dishes are carried to other tables over your head which seems dangerous.
you are pestered with offers of more drinks continuously and if you have a bottle of wine at your table it is taken and poured as soon as your glass hits the half way line. you are not asked.
the waiters are very rude, the waitresses are nicer but this is no exception.
I will not go back, the food is nice but its not that nice!
The food at this restaurant was simply amazing. My fiancee and I have eaten in many of the highly recommended restaurants in London and this is one of the best.
As far as the service is concerned, everything was delivered fast and the staff was very helpful. We had an incident while at the restaurant and my Fiancee needed some help, the staff was extremely helful and very caring! We are very grateful for their help.
I cannot reccommend this restaurant enough!
I very recently had a party here comprising of lesbians, a number of which are women of different ethnic origins and I was extremely disappointed. Although the food was good and reasonably priced, the service was slow and at times rude. This made it very hard to overlook the cramped table and unhygienic toilet that you had to access by going out onto the street and then through the other side of the restaurant.
I have dined at this restaurant on a number of occasions in the recent past and have been very happy with experience. The staff were always very helpful and considerate which compensated for the cramped nature due to being so busy. I have also organised a large Christmas party here and everyone who attended was extremely happy with their experience.
Although I hope this was an anomaly, I am concerned that the difference between this poor dining experience and the previous good occasions was the group I was with.
I went to this restaurant recently and found the service absolutely appalling. Waiting staff (with the exception of one person) were unfriendly, impatient and abrupt. I haven't had the experience of feeling so unwelcome in a London restaurant for a long time.
On a positive note, food portions were good and dishes were reasonably priced. However, as someone who eats a lot of Turkish and Turkish-influenced food, I found the dishes mediocre.
The chairs were uncomfortable, the seating plan was poor and the subterranean (and less than hygienic) toilets made for an overall really bad restaurant experience.
I would not go back to this restaurant and would not recommend it.
This is a great restaurant to go to if you want a meal that is very reasonable but still good quality.
We often go for food here before going out to one of the bars in Upper Street or Camden.
The atmosphere is cosy but that is part of the charm and the service is friendly and accommodating.
One of my favourite restaurants in London! I went about 10 times last year! - Yes its a bit cramp but it only adds to the fantastic atmosphere.
The food is amazing (Lamb Steak, every time) and the service is brilliant. Its always a winner when you want to take out friends/family for a nice slice of London.
Excellent food, very reasonably priced - not a quiet place though - good for a party.
If by any miracle you can save your backside or paraphernalia not burned by the candles on every table as you manoeuvre through the cramped gaps and ways to your own seat, there's some excellent food to be had. And it was so buzzing with people's chatter on a Friday night I went in, that it puts you in a good mood. Very unpretentious a venue, and the food was absolute yum. Try the sauteed seafood with rice and lamb kofte with rice. I haven't had meat and seafood so delicious and aromatic in a long while.
Service's fast, staff very friendly and the small-town eating joint ambience is very unassuming.
Statutory warning: don't venture near it if you've had a heavy day can't take a roomful of people conversing and/or have a handbag bigger than a paper-napkin.
Mem & Laz has excellent food, a huge menu, great service and a great atmosphere.
