I LOVE MOMO.... If you're looking for a shisha place that also offers a nice environment and nice food, Momo is the place for you. Me and my friends love going to shisha places but couldn't' find a nice place in central London in that area that also has a nice environment. We've been to Edgware road to many places but most of the places there don't have a nice environment. Momo has amazing food, amazing drinks they also do delicious cocktails, their shisha is really good and they have a nice outdoors area with lots of heaters so you dont even realise you're outside. They also have a really nice tea room in addition to the main restaurant. I'd definitely recommend Momo to anyone around the area that wants to have a drink and relax after a long day...
The reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it's prices are a bit high. But again keeping in mind that the service is amazing, the environment is really nice and their food/drinks choice is amazing it's definitely worth a visit...

Had my birthday dinner at Momo. Only had a small amount of Friend coming as I wanted to have an intimate dinner.
The restaurant was lovely and the atmosphere so good.
The food was really tasty and it really feel like you were in northe africa or midlle east but not in Mayfair!.
The staff did a good job and all danced when they brought my bday cake on table which was so much fun.

I had previously been to the adjacent Tea Room but was keen to try the restaurant situated next door. Visually it beautiful and a good place to make an impression. Unfortuntly this is what you will have to pay for to take in the surroundings as opposed to the food. I opted to go on a Monday evening it was fairly busy and our waiters/ress were attentive. The food is over priced and average - Bland with lack of flavour compared to similar food where I have paid 1/2 of the price. Doubtful I will go back good place to try once but not to repeat.

After having been to Momo several times previously and having given it rave reviews I would say that I would no longer recommend it to anyone. Despite the fact that the food is tasty and ambiance is pleasant, the service and the staff at Momo are beyond appalling. I had made an early evening reservation and several people in our party of 5 had eaten prior to arriving so requested only small dishes. This seemed to perplex the waitress serving us whose English was pretty weak. After placing our orders, a junior manager came over to our table and demanded to know who had made the reservation. I identified myself and she proceeded to reprimand me for making a booking in the restaurant when they have a cafe for mezze. This was not stated when the booking was made and they could have simply politely requested that we decamp to the cafe and have our food served there. Instead she was aggressive and confrontational. She said we were lucky that tonight was quiet so it was ok for us to stay but usually it is very hectic. She was truly shocking no concept of customer service making us feel that we should be grateful to be there rather than the other way round. I wanted to remind her that it was my custom that kept her in a job! Now if she was not bad enough, she was soon followed by the manager, a male (i could not possibly use the word gentleman to describe this man) who asked who wanted to speak to the manager. We never requested that he come. He started reiterating this policy of theirs and when another member of our party interrupted him he told her that he was speaking and that he should be allowed to finish. As a result of this we had our last straw. London is a big city with millions of restaurants so we paid for our drinks - they even charged for one we never received, cancelled our food orders and left them with a half empty restaurant. Absolutely disgraceful! Reading other reviews here this seems to be a running theme!

This was my first visit to Momos and I have mixed reviews of it. Bottom line is I wouldnt go there again. The bar staff were very rude and unfriendly. It was my hen party and a warm evening to sit outside in the bar area. We were a civil hen party of 8, not causing any fuss or noise and I had a small tiara with veil but no sash or feather boa etc and none of my friends had anything like that on either and the waitress came over and told me they don't allow that sort of thing and to take off the veil. We were all shocked at how bold and abrupt she was about it. Then we asked for a couple more seats for the table and were told no as they only allow four around each table. Talk about putting a dampener on a happy occasion. They obviously thought i was ruining their image!
The restaurant itself was much friendlier, they allowed me to wear the veil but the service was dreadful. They put your bottle of wine in a place where you cant get to it but dont come and top it up regularly. The amount of glasses on the table that we weren't using was ridiculous and when asked to take them away, the waiter ignored that and it was only when they were stuffed into his hands physically that he finally took them. We waited ages for our food and drinks, with long periods of nothing to drink. The only saving grace for this restaurant, is how lovely the decor is and the food when it finally came, was superb.
They obviously haven't learnt from Gordon Ramsay's comments of why they didn't win their category in his programme "Gordon Ramsays Best Restaurants". I thought they would have learnt which is why i booked it.

We just left momo and it was great! We are from out of town and a friend of a friend highly recommended the place. Friend recommended booking but we did a walk-in as we happened to be on regents. The maitre'd was very sweet and got us a table (some no show apparently). She got us to wait downstairs while they got ready the table.

The bar experience was bad, hence I only gave 4 stars otherwise would have been a five. The bar was barely 20% filled and the waitress moved us twice cos we (two of us) occupied a table for three. She was irritating and rude. When she came and told us to move to some crammed corner I told her plainly it was squeeze and uncomfortable, besides we would just be there for short while. Wanted to order a drink but apparently her job is crowd control and no drink ordering... So never got a drink at all. Actually wanted to try the lava rock :(

But the restaurant side experience was very positive. Our waiter seemed a bit grouchy but two other waiters were very helpful and gave very good recommendations on both food and wine. Hubby actually said it's best lamb he had had for a long time!! We ate so much (cos it was so good) that we had no space for desserts!!

Oh dear, oh dear ... I'd give 0 stars if I could.

I've never left a restaurant review before, but after last night's performance I feel I must. I should add that I've lived in London for years and frequently dine out in a variety of smart (and not-so-smart) places all over the world.

We spent a few hours in the downstairs bar having cocktails, then moved upstairs for dinner. Throughout the whole evening, the lack of service was appalling. All of the staff had a "you're lucky to be in here" attitude which - frankly - is at odds with what good service should be! It was really hard to get anyone's attention, and when you did they were dismissive and slapdash, and on a few occasions, downright rude. It very much felt like they were doing us a favour in bringing us food and drink ...

The cocktails were admittedly good, but they seemed to have run out of a surprisingly large amount of their wine list. Our table - both downstairs and upstairs - on 3 or 4 occasions ran dry and remained so for between 15-30 minutes before we could get served.

The food ... ah, the food .... mediocre at best. When you're paying between £20 and £30 for a main course you expect better than mediocre.

And then there's the floor show ... oh my goodness, what do they think they're doing? The atmosphere and decor felt very themed (you can imagine they'd have this as the Moroccan ride at Disney) and the whole experience was cheesy and naff.

This restaurant is in the price bracket of some fine London restaurants, but is actually like an expensive, Moroccan version of Ping Pong (the cocktail dim sum chain). Avoid.

As another person stated, I would give Momo's 0 stars if I could. We had booked for a table of 14, so we were locked into a set menu, but 5 had gotten sick the night before and could not make it. I understand that this could have caused a bit of a problem and yet this was nothing compared to what they had put us through! First, they had seated us in a corner of the resturant with two connection tables, then when we realized these 5 members were not coming, the waitress came and asked us to move politely. When I did not inform my party, not more than 5 minutes, the floor manager came to me and yelled to my whole party to move! I found him very rude! When the food finally came, half of my party had ordered the steak, they all found that it was full of fat! The worst steak we had ever tried! Then when dessert came, the same manager began passing one dessert. He was calling out, "chocolate. Chocolate!" but no one answered, so he mumbled, "then say something!"finally, when it came time to pay, on the reciept, it stated the price, below the additional service charge and then the total including the service charge. Below it stated that the service charge was optional! Since I found the manager's attitude quite rude, so we only wanted to pay half of it since we did find our waitress's attentativeness. So we spilt the bill between the 9 of us, and all was fine until the waitress realized we had not paid the service charge she went and told the manager, who came to deal with us with the worst attitude possible. We were talking to him very calmly explaining why we did not want to pay and he just started yelling and making faces and his language was offensive, calling us b*****s! Then he just began shooing us out of the resturant as if we were dogs! And then he slammed the doors behind us! I would never reccommend this resturant to anyone!

All of which matches pretty much what I experienced. Seems that as a customer there we should be grateful of the privelige and not have unrealistic expectations such as polite prompt service or a polite manager.

Had the most embarrassing moment at Momo, when I took my client there earlier this week. Four of us started with a cocktail each, followed by a couple bottles of wine between us with meal. When we finished our main and asked menu for dessert, a waiter (floor manager? One with black jacket) shouted at us; "oh, come on people, we need this table now!". When I asked why he had to say that, he said we were occupying the table too long, while we were only allowed for 2 hours! I could not believe what we were told, especially after spending over 80 pounds per head by this time before dessert. 2 hours rule? At this price? Says where? How about a little nicer way to speak to your customers? I tried to save the evening for my client, by moving to a table in the cafe type of space next door for dessert, but the whole evening was ruined by then. I was extra embarrassed, since my client was from a Japanese magazine seeking for a young & friendly London restaurant to write about. And Momo was my recommendation. A very interesting setting inside, pricy but ok food and drink selection, but the place urgently needs decent management, before it offends many more customers. Do not go to Momo, especially to entertain your client.

Wanted to celebrate our fifth year anniversary somewhere special and having been to Morocco and loved the food I was interested to see that Momo has a wide selection of North African food. Well, Momo didn’t disappoint the surroundings were colourful and vibrant and the staff were great, really pleasant without standing over us the whole time. The food itself was excellent, for starter I had the chargrilled aubergine and for my main, harissa braised beef ribs which were out of this world. We had a bit of a wait for dessert but I would definitely recommend Momo to all my friends.

A warm summer’s evening yes, it was a few weeks ago I headed down to Momo to enjoy some of their sensational cocktails sitting outside, in the wonderful Heddon street just off Regent Street.

So peaceful,a world apart. After three cocktails my husband and I decided we’d give their restaurant a try too. It’s another world! It was a combination of City cool and Moroccan flair it¹s divine.

Grilled asparagus, briouats (small pastry triangles filled with cheese and potato), beef fillet with succulent wild mushrooms and the vegetable tagine. I loved it and so did he.

Absolutely the most appalling dining experience we have ever had in London. If I could put 0 stars, I would.

We brought a large party to this restaurant; we were berated by the arrogant manager for not spending more money and ordering more food, and the waiter refused to bring us bread and olives for fear that we might fill ourselves up and order less. I think he forgot who's paying who.

We were told 3x that the chef was upset because a 10th person showed up to sit with our group an hour and fifteen minutes into our dinner (we were 9, which is still allowed to be "a la carte" dining), because they wanted to have locked us into a 'menu fixe' for more money. Apparently the stress of having an extra person was too much for the chef (which I don't believe, I'm sure he's a nice guy), never mind the fact that there were at least 60-80 other people in the restaurant all ordering individual dishes.

We ordered starters just to assuage them, but were so pissed by the end of dinner that we didn't order dessert and we didn't stay to go to their bar because we felt like we were being taken to the drycleaners.

Never again.

AVOID THIS PLACE; the atmosphere is nice but you can get the same ambiance at PASHA on Gloucester Road (among other places) and much better food to boot.

Things I loved about Momo: the ambience, the decor, the menu, the cocktails and above all the fabulously cooked food. Things I didn't like so muc, space and noise. I can appreciate that it's 'authentic' to have everyone cramped in (or is that just a pretext to cram as many diners in as possible, I wonder?) but it's slightly frustrating to have shout across the table to your fellow diner. Having said that, there was a certain charm to the atmosphere buzz of the place in general and the food and drinks were beyond reproach and for me, that's the number one priority.

No issues with the staff. Yes it is very small and close, so not ideal in terms of getting around, but all very courteous.

No issue regarding bill or cost. I don't understand the number of complaints about the cost of restaurants in London I see on here! I'd suggest that people should research the place they're going to beforehand isnstead of moaning on that it was expensive after the fact. Momo's online menu states their prices so there really shouldn't be any nasty surprises. There are a number of 'cheaper' retaurants of the same ilk. Souk Medina is another great North African restuarnat for less, so look around before you commit yourself if cost is an isssue..I would have thiought that went without saying! Failing that, I think some people would be best sticking with Frankie & Bennies or TGIS.

I'm absolutely shocked at some of the poor reviews that Momo's has recieved below. I can only imagine that competitors are paying people off to write bad reviews because I've eaten and drunk at Momo's plenty of times and it never fails to provide a fantastic evening. Admittedly, it does get a little cosy in there, but that's surely testament to it's popularity. As a bijoux Moroccan restaurant, done out in the traditional style, most of the seating is pretty communal and it's the whole point that it's meant to be a friendly place where everyone's sat together. Momo's is by far the best food and atmosphere that Heddon Street has to offer.

I've managed to get a table before without reservation (with a 45 minute wait), but I'd definitely recommend booking to avoid disappointment (I've been turned away a few times too!) If you're going for the first time and aren't sure what to go for, you can't go wrong with one of their simple, melt-in-your-mouth lamb tagines with couscous. I'd highly recommend one of their absolutely killer mojitos too!

...bt the reiewer below has a point in writing that the tables are too small and that being forced to order extra food is a negative.
I personally love the food at Momoand the pepermint tea is simply to die for! You can't however, avoid the facts which contribute to the eating experience as a whole.

I booked a table at Momo because I had eaten at their bar before and the food was lovely. Like other reviews, we had a similar experience of feeling rushed and the table was so small for the six of us that they couldn't fit all our food on it.

The food was really, really good but I was annoyed that when we ordered we were told we all had to order a main course. I know this isn't the only place that has this silly rule but I am not prepared to pay for food that I know I won't eat. In the end we were allowed to order three mains because we ordered some starters as well, but I felt like the waiter thought we ordered less food because we couldn't afford it.

In the end the bill came to over 200 quid so I think they made enough money out of us! Overall the attitude of the Momo staff ruined the experience which is a shame because the food is great. I would only ever eat at the bar in future.

We went to Momo for a birthday celebration, having booked the restaurant for 8pm. We arrived at 7.50pm, and before we even sat down the waiter asked if we wanted to order a drink. We asked for some time to look over the menu, and he returned within three minutes to take the order and then brought the drinks and asked what we wanted to eat within five minutes. The hors d’ oeuvre arrived within 10 minutes, we took about 15 minutes to munch through them, our plates were cleared and straight away our main course arrived. We then had to shovel our food down before it went cold. I had just put my fork down and the plate was removed to be replaced with the dessert menu!

I felt very uncomfortable and I didn't enjoy the meal because it was so rushed. We asked the waiter if he was trying to get rid of us and the manager didn't seem to care either. He said as it was a Friday they needed us to only use the two hour slot. We had only been there for 65 minutes!

The service was good, but the Momo management attitude was unprofessional and our birthday celebration was ruined!

Momo was really disappointing - I recommended Momo to a couple of friends for dinner, having been there previously for a work dinner and being really impressed. However, last night's experience left me determined never to go back there again!

The food was lovely and the atmosphere great - both things that I remembered from last time. But at the end of the meal when we had paid and were just literally rounding up the evening, without being asked we were brought our coats to leave! When I asked why our coats had been brought without our request, the response the waiters gave was that it was time for the next sitting.

I fully respect the two sittings arrangement, but there are ways to go about it and that was definitely not one of them! To add insult, there wasn't even anyone actually waiting for the table. My friends and I were absolutely disgusted - and it spoilt what was otherwise a lovely evening. Needless to say we won't be going back to Momo again.

I treated my boyfriend to a birthday dinner at Momos. Our seating was only for two hours and started at 7:00, but we were so rushed that before we even finished our drinks the waiters had asked us 5 times to order. They were literally circling our table and giving a very stressed impression. The meal throughout was equally rushed and at 8.45 they served us the bill without us even asking for it and then another waiter presented it to us again three minutes later, just to make sure we would really leave.

The waiters looked at us with relief when we left Momos at 8:55. The food was okay but the duck was cooked like a shoesole and could barely be cut through. They also brought my boyfriend's main first, and then realised that mine was not ready yet, so they took his back to the kitchen for a while, and then re-served it a few moments later together with mine. Overall quite bad considering the prices they charge you in the end.

The booking I had for myself and 4 friends at Momo was for 9pm, which I thought was very late for dinner. But, when we arrived at the restaurant, my name was not on the list! Having read the other reviews of Momo, which were not too good, it just proved that their service was appalling. I had to argue with the manager, stating that why would I bring 4 of my friends to a restaurant with a booking that doesn’t exist? When my husband mentioned that he would write to the newspapers about the poor service, they suddenly had a table for us with 5 free cocktails.

I must say that my main, the Chicken Tagine, was very good but my friend's Chicken Couscous was bland. There were a lot of waiters but there wasn’t any service at all - the booking in the restaurant is only for 2 hours so why are the waiters not giving any service if they want to rush you out?

I can honestly say that this is possibly the worst restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to dine at. Having seated our party of 6 people around two adjoining round tables that didn't allow anywhere for your legs to go, and prevented us from all having a group conversation the evening just got worse and worse.

Our table was booked for 10.30pm. When ordering I tried to order the special lamb dish for 2 people to be told that it was no longer available that evening. The waiter then went on to tell me that it was however the tastiest dish on the menu and that I should have got there earlier if I had wanted to eat it. That's just what I wanted to hear. My next three choices were also unavailable. You're getting the picture...

However, the overiding complaint was the rudeness and general uncaring attitude of the staff. They obviously survive on passing tourist business as they did not once try to accomodate our requests and make our evening enjoyable. Rubbish overpriced, bland food, abominable service, music so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you. Money grabbers! Don't go there!

This must rate as one of the all round worst eating out experiences I have ever had in London. The staff were rude and arrogant, the food (of the few things on the menu that were available) bland, the atmosphere deafening and worse of all, it is highly over priced. Momo's is obviously looking to take advantage of the one time visitor, and not interested in any returning business.

After reading a few disappointing reviews regarding Momo I was not expecting the pleasant suprise that I received. Well looked after by all members of stuff throughout (including when we arrived early and were taken downstairs and served with excellent cocktails).

The food was wonderful (sorry about the cliche words used in this review). I had the pastilla pigeon for starters and then the sea bass for mains, fantastic.

The atmosphere was great. You must go.

Food - terrific

Atmosphere - absolutely great

Service - fine, once seated
They tried to seat us at the table 4 feet from the hostess stand, despite our arrival 20 minutes before our reservation, and there being several unoccupied two-tops remaining. We were on our way out the door, when they acquiesced (to my surprise) and seated us IN the restaurant, rather than the doorway.
After that, all was good, but I couldn't help but feel those available tables were meant for someone more hip than me. And I'm pretty hip.
