MonkeyChews thrilled again with last Tuesdays Open Sessions...among others, TheBlindFlies set the tone with two giutars and little riffs of harmonica... then, the standard was shifted by the "American" with a RobertCrayish sound... just brilliant...topped the bill... I had half a chicken... the tastiest... with garden salad and a some primavera rice... how 'bout that... Japanese chefs! Well, that's not bad form for a wet evening... mnkychws gets better as the week progresses... I'll be heading there on thursday night...

Contrary to the other reviewer, I feel totally the opposite about Monkey Chews. This place is a welcome relief from the nearby gastropubs which take themselves far too seriously or tedious anodyne stripped pine chain pubs. Monkey Chews is pretty much unique in London (as far as pubs go). It's dark and almost sleazy, using rich colours very effectively. Granted, drinks are 10-20p more expensive than they should be but the great music and the eclectic crowd of people make up for it. Recommended.

Monkey Chews is for total losers - don't bother. It's dirty, dusty, unhygienic and expensive. Its bar staff are irritating (for some reason they think they are really cool and they aren't) and there are much better pubs in the area. It is also empty most of the week. Don't waste your time - it's not cool, it's a dump.

MonkeyChews is an experience...music, good food and beverages! Most encouraging, is the atmosphere...it's like a place you belong. A place one goes to without expectation yet be thoroughly satisfied! And the staff...J and N...they are people you want to have drinks with. There is laughter too.

Monkey Chews is a fine pub, but why does everyone crowd around the bar area when there are several extra rooms? Wouldn't trust the food though.
