It's a big Wetherspoons mega-pub, of which there are many, and if you like Wetherspoons' generic drink selection and marginally enjoyable pub food you'll be OK here.

The Montague Pyke occupies a former theatre building, yet despite its size somehow manages to make poor use of the space. It's hard to explain why but you'll see what I mean when you go there; it's oddly laid out, with a small upper level which puts some dining tables right next to the toilets (so it gets a lot of toilet traffic pushing past the diners).

And don't let "theatre building" give you any grand ideas about the decor: it's standard Wetherspoons, gaudy, slightly dirty and a bit 1990s.

I was going to suggest it should be called the "Montague Pikey", but the suggestion box below has a better idea, suggesting that I should replace "Pyke" with "Puke".

I'm usually not a fan of wetherspoons, but this one plays music, which is a huge bonus. The food and drink are standard wetherspoons which are therefore nothing to write home about but yet a decent standard everytime.

but this place has loads of seating and seating bays on different levels, in a huge old building, two bars, many tv's and a big screen for the football which are all good. Friendly atmosphere. Not bad at all, have been a few times and will go back again : )
