Great beer and good service, but the food was borderline inedible. My kids ordered the simple burger and got a hard overcooked piece of meat on a stale hard bun. I ordered the steak and ale pie, which was cold and gummy. Not recommended.
my wife and myself called in this pub last week, for a quick pint and some food,
while the choice of ale is excellent and around £3 a pint the pub itself could do with a good going over, I sat on a bench seat and allmost ended on the floor!
had to sit on the end of the seat to stay up. Good choice of food and good prices, we had the Italian Chicken with chips for me, potato's for the wife and side salad,
waited about 15mins for the food to arive, looked very good, tasted very good, BUT just about warm, and no more, by the time we had eaten half of the meal the rest was cold, so it was time to drink up and go,
we are up in London again in August so we will not call there again.
Narrow, thin, crowded Bloomsbury pub located opposite the colonnades of the British Museum. Does not disappoint fans of dark wood panelling and unscrubbed cosiness. A proliferation of Timothy Taylors memorabilia litters the walls.
The clientele were dank and loathsome, cluttered around like so much flotsam and jetsam blown in from the array of tourists that flock to the taverns nearby namesake.
The choice of ale was excellent both Timothy Taylors and Old Peculiar…in the same pub…well you could have knocked me down with a feather. Greedily I supped from them and well happy I was. Food you ask, hmm, pricey pub fare heading towards the 9 or 10 pounds mark. Tried the roast beef – adequate nothing more. Service was affable.
Papers in the rack were the sun, the daily mail and the metro. A motley bunch I tutted disapprovingly. Toilets were subterranean and clean. The tables and all in there could have done with a good wipe. All in all – pleasant but slightly scruffy. Time was passed.
Last time in London I visited the Museum Tavern. Very nice location very close to my hotel(Radisson). I was just pacing by and happened to walk in to have a look at the architecture and ended up staying for a couple of hours.
During my stay I met many people both local and tourist seeming to have a wonderful time of it. The only reason why I left was because I was invited on a pub crawl with several locals. Great pub, great people.
