The ViewLondon Review
So you’ve finished your shopping on Sloane Avenue and you’re a bit parched. Why not head down to mybar Chelsea and have yourself a soothing and well deserved cocktail? The VenueJust off one of the most upmarket and exclusive streets in Chelsea lies this small but perfectly formed kitsch hotel bar. Outside, small pink spotlights mark its territory. Although it’s quite small, it can still fit in many ‘ladies wot lunch’ and people exhausted after a day of burning their credits cards.
Inside, it mybar Chelsea looks like a modern, trendy house with a bar attached. With gorgeous white marble tables and comfortable grey chairs, you know you are going to be pampered as soon as you sit your weary self down. The gas fire that sits in front a large sofa, with a big table and more comfy chairs, is the ideal place to gossip over a glass of Champagne. A statue of Buddha resides in the window with a spectrum of light bouncing off him, which gives a modern, new-age feel to the place.
The AtmosphereDuring the day, mybar Chelsea is very relaxed and mainly consists of ladies who want to take advantage of the afternoon tea. This means that it is full of Chelsea women with lots of cash to wave about who don’t have jobs and spend their days lunching. Soothing chillout music is played during the day but it is turned off a night as the place gets reasonably busy with Sloanies who wants a good natter washed down with a top quality cocktail. The bar staff, to their credit, are quick to please, very efficient, and have a welcoming smile on their faces.
The FoodA modern twist on afternoon tea can be enjoyed during the day. At night, the menu offers some tasty culinary delights. These include: salt and pepper calamari with courgette spaghetti, rocket and lemon (£10) or the sumptuous beef medallions with glazed new potatoes, mushrooms and jus (£16.50). If you fancy something smaller then the chicken, crispy bacon and mixed leaves sandwich (£9) is always a good option, or the Mediterranean platter - lemon soul goujons, parma ham, olives, hummus, pitta and calamari - (£14.50) is a must have for indecisive grazers.
The DrinkThe drinks menu at mybar Chelsea is plentiful and pleasing to the palate. With wines starting at £4.75 for a glass and £16.50 for a bottle they are very good quality, which reflects the price. Champagne starts at £11 for a glass and £50 for a bottle of Laurent Perrier Brut.
The best options to go for are the lethal but wonderfully concocted cocktails. Classics like Cosmopolitans and Long Island Ice teas are £7 whereas muddled and sour ones are £7.25 (Mojitos and Amaretto Sours). They only have a small selection of Martinis but boy are they good. Champagne cocktails may appear to be expensive (£8.50) but they are fun, powerful and addictive. One that stands out is ‘PS I love you’ with Chambord, elderflower cordial and Champagne.
The Last WordIf you fancy a great evening gossiping away whilst sampling exquisite cocktails then head to mybar Chelsea for an alcoholic treat. Just be careful it doesn’t bankrupt you!
