Reasonably priced and tasty food - a nice change in the City ! Get a table in the garden if the weather is good.

I have only recently discovered number 49 and I have to say what a hidden gem.
The staff have always made me feel like it is my local in the city which is rare these days.If the weather is good then there is no better place in the city to enjoy a bottle of wine and a tasty sandwich.I like the fact that the food is simple unpretentious and the wine list offers lots of choice.

The attitude of the Manager @ Bar 49 is appalling. I have just sat and had lunch with a friend and was told after eating my lunch they have had a leak and I shouldn't put my handbag down. This was too late as mine and my friends feet were left soaking wet. We didn’t feel we should pay for lunch as this was just not acceptable and we were never told about the leak when we arrived. The manager did take off service charge which was just laughable as it’s down to my discretion if I want to pay it anyway. When I said I wouldn't be coming back she said ok fine have a nice afternoon in a very sarcastic manner. The company I work for provide Bar 49 with allot of business what with company events etc, and I’m now in the process of making sure they do not use this venue ever again.
I recommend you don’t waste your time in this Bar; you can go round the corner to Abbey Bar or Mary Jane’s for a much better atmosphere and great staff. The reason I never went to one of these is because they were fully booked, Bar 49 however was not, I wonder why.

Aldgate Colony Wine Bar has very good food and wine - all reasonably priced, a great place to unwind after a hard day in the City. The Staff are very friendly and the Bar has a great garden to relax in on those rare summer days!
