The ViewLondon Review
If you are up for the crack (or should that be craic?) then head on down to O’Neills Richmond. This busy and popular chain of Irish pubs are where good things do come to those who wait. The VenueO’Neills is perfectly positioned in Richmond in the Quadrant, within walking distance of the train station that provides easy access to Waterloo and London overground services. The O’Neills brand is a mixture of deep aqua blues and simple, traditional decor, which makes this brand stand out on the street as they are instantly recognisable. Chunky woods as thick as the chips, and robust earthy furniture are permanent fixtures in these bars across the capital. With live music and a big screen as standard this rounds off an ideal location to have a swift half.
The AtmosphereLots of businessmen frequent this establishment, whether they arrive in packs or smaller parties. A popular place for work drinks, you will see lots of fun and frolics by the end of closing time as the alcohol flows and the banter turns a little racier. With music in the background bellowing out the latest hits and classics of days gone by, you will have no excuse not to put down your drink and swing along to the beat. With additional live performances, featuring everything from traditional Irish sessions on a Sunday and some of the latest up and coming indie bands, it really is all about the live music.
The FoodThere’s a broad range of dishes on offer, which is the reason why the cuisine is a little inconsistent. Food ranges from jacket potatoes and sandwiches to steaks, pies, fish and burgers. You will be guaranteed that even the fussiest of eaters will be satisfied once sat down.
The blackened salmon and colcannon is decent. The Scottish salmon fillet is lightly dusted with Cajun spices and served on colcannon - a typical Irish dish consisting of a mixture of mashed potato and cabbage. This is rounded off with stringy green beans that are too soft.
Another favourite to try is the Guinness Battered Fish and Chips, and at under £6 it’s a real steal. Keeping up with all things Irish, this classic British dish has been given a subtle twist as the fish is battered in O’Neills own Guinness batter and served with chips that are filling and mushy peas that will evoke school hall memories.
The DrinkThere are the traditional favourites that will soon have you doing the Riverdance in delight, including Guinness priced at around £3. The house Sauvignon Blanc is worth a go, as is one of the wines from California, Spain and New Zealand. You will also find a small array of potent bourbons and a decent selection of some quality Irish and Scottish whiskeys.
The Last WordIf you’re up for a laugh, a munch, a bit of a dance, and just plain silly fun with chums, work colleagues, or other halves, then O’Neills will provide you with everything under one roof
