The ViewLondon Review
An O’Neills is an O’Neills is an O’Neills but this one's leading the way.
The Venue
Yes, this outpost on Goldhawk Road may have been refurbished, revisited and reborn, but you just can’t take the blandness out of a chain pub. Although this O'Neills is first in line for any improvements so you'll be ahead of the pack in that respect.
The Atmosphere
It’s vast, it has mahogany touches all around and a couple of pleasant cutout alcoves. There are the requisite Irish memorabilia – patriotic sporting pictures and film star photos – and live bands every Friday (don’t expect Goldfrapp to be appearing any time soon, though).
The Drinks
There is a beer organ – one of only five to be found in O’Neills throughout the land - a bank of beer taps at one end of the bar making floor service fast and efficient.
That aside, you can prop up the bar supping on Irish stalwarts including the obligatory pints of the black stuff. Or simply relax at your table and they'll regularly refresh your glass without you having to lift a finger.
The Last Word
Why visit a place like O'Neills? There are hundreds of beautiful, old historic boozers in London with atmospheric, and potentially more inspirational surroundings.
A wiseman might say boycott the chains, but if you’re just in it for the craic, you could do far worse than seek out this branch of O’Neills.
