The ViewLondon Review
Right on the West India Dock Road, Oporto is a nice, trendy little boozer - it’s just a shame you can’t rely on the clientele to be the same. The VenueAppearing to be a traditional old pub but with some nice contemporary touches that include funky tunes on a large television, chunky wooden fittings, box pouffes and soft leather seating, Oporto could be a nice little pub. However, its proximity to West India Dock Road means it’s not always the most appetising of places to visit. A small smoking area at the front offers views of the busy road. Consequently, it’s not the type of place you’d make a beeline for, or somewhere you’d choose to visit upon passing by.
The AtmosphereWith very friendly bar staff, Oporto should have a good atmosphere but one gets the impression those behind the bar might have used their obvious diplomatic skills on more than the odd occasion. Expect it to be filled with locals – newcomers might be wary of upsetting what feels like a finely balanced atmosphere.
The DrinkOporto offers staples and little else, which is understandable as the demand appears to be far from eclectic. The good work behind the bar continues with beers that are kept very well, but their job is hardly taxing given that the options really aren’t that extensive.
The Last WordWith friendly bar staff, good management and obvious effort, Oporto should be praised, but some of the clientele make that difficult.
