We had booked a table over a month ago and advised them that we would also be celebrating a birthday and they said they will arrange a birthday plate. The table was booked for 230 pm. When we arrived we reminded them of the birthday. Whilst the room was full with staff it took 15 mins before got served and this was only after we had to call a waiter over. The selection of sandwiches were not complete as described on the menu whilst they were delicious. It is etiquette that re-fills are offered we had to ask and then we were told only one re-fill was included in the price £35.- and £45- per person, whilst other hotels offer unlimited. At 4pm the waiter came over with a plate and asked whose birthday it was placed the birthday cupcake with the candle in front of the birthday person and presented us with bill so that we can pay and leave by 415pm. We ofcourse refused to do so as we were not told that the table would have to be returned by 415 less than 2 hours and moreover the audacity to present a bill when we never asked for it and we were only half way through he courses was unacceptable. We complained to the manager he offered us champagne on the house and advised we can stay as long as we needed to. Whilst the tea offered the Langham cupcake this never arrived. We asked for the bill, we had to ask them to give us a box for the pastries which should be included. The bill had two items on there which we never ordered adding an additional £60.- plus service to the bill. It took them 15 mins to sort it out and bring us the correct bill. Whilst the room and food were faultless the service was appalling. We spent £250.- for the 4 of us and were not at all happy with the service nor the value for money.

We had an afternoon tea in The Langham which was by far not worth the price of 78,50 for two persons.

The positive things were the friendliness of the staff. (It was crowded with staff). Also the scones were fresh and more sandwiches were offered when the first were finished.

The disappointing things were: the sandwiches that you make at home are probably more interesting and better tasting than the ones you get here, the cakes were baby-bit sized, not that fresh and not very interesting.

I would say that the cost-price of the whole thing is about 8% of the total price.

If you want to pay the rest for sitting up in a kitschy palm court, looking at lots of staff and listen to boring live piano-music than you should really go there.
