Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here today. The service was impeccable (verging on the over-friendly) but managed to stay just the right side of it - when we entered and mentioned that we had booked a table for 3.30 the maitre d' said (with a smile, not even looking at a reservations book, and not a hint of sarcasm)

'Ah yes, we've been expecting you, how are you?' - I know it's just a pleasantry but it really was nice! They took our bags (including mum's suitcase!) and put them in the cloakroom.

Wine list delivered immediately (huuuuge wine list) and then when we explained we were on an offer it was all given to us very nicely and in an informative manner. White Middle pig was delicious and the crackling was great, the 'beast of the day' - beef - was medium-rare and very tender.

Only encountered one 'I can't chew this any more; I'm just going to have to swallow it' moment and that's because I'd inadvertently picked a piece of rind.

Huge portions, no fancy arrangements, just a lot of meat, some delicious torn beef in a huge yorkshire pudding and some delish beetroot horseradish sauce.

Ordered side dishes of broccoli and roast potatoes - the waiter brought us some more broccoli as he said he didn't think we'd got enough in that portion, and the potatoes were really nicely roasted - crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

Wine offered with the deal was very nice as well, a light red and a dry white. Sorbet for dessert - one scoop rosehip, one scoop raspberry - was light and a very nice way to finish, as was the sticky toffee pudding. On the deal the whole thing - including my second glass of wine - came to £45.

Service is not included which I loved - and I was more than willing to leave a big tip as the service was impeccable, the whole restaurant very clean, and the food delicious. Sorry for the long review but it really was a great end to a lovely weekend! S

Went to Paternoster Chop House one Sunday for a traditional roast about six months ago. The food was delicious, in fact stunning.

However, the service was appalling mainly from one acidic waiter who insisted that the 'paste' was called so because 'this is a British restaurant.'

That explains to some degree why Gordon Ramsay's Petrus (formerly his) had called paste 'pate' as it was French some two weeks earlier.

However it's called I can assure you it all tastes rather bitter with such vile service.

It was amazing that the waiter had unsuspectingly poured his bitumen over my 'American' partner who I can assure you knows an amazing amount about food, restaurants, wine and Michelin Starred venues.

Returned two weeks ago in search of food (not service) on a Sunday to find the doors closing at 3.30pm having it explained that the place closes at 4pm although the business cards indicated 5pm.

I suppose there is such an anomaly because it's a 'British restaurant.' My advice, stay away.

We loved our visit to the Chop House. The food was fantastic- every item on the menu was recited to us by the knowledgeable waiter and he knew exactly where it all came from. The wine list is excellent too. Perfect if you are in the city but worth travelling to from further afield.

The Paternoster Chop House is a Terence Conran restaurant so expect stylish design, quality food and the kind of polite service only good money can buy. We saved up before going to Paternoster Chop House, so we had the full works – oysters, suckling pig and spotted dick – it was great.
