we happened upon this gorgeous pub on Monday whilst trying to avoid the heatwave on our way to Harrods. i have to say if we had read many of the reviews online I probably would have staggered on past. But happily for us it was a chance encounter. we were greeted straight away by a very chirpy Irish barman who was happy to recommend a suitable beer for my husband and a most refreshing ice-cold Crabbies for me. The interior was beautiful with lots of etched glass panels, these reflected the sunlight and although the interior was dimly lit we felt very comfortable.
there were quite a few people eating around us and all the dishes looked and smelled good as they wafted past.
so i say maybe the PH had a troubled past but give it a chance if you're passing.

It was a good restaurant with a very rude manager that marred the experience.

The interior was nice if a little quiet on a friday night. My cousins and I asked the waiter and were told that everything on the menu was 50% off with the taste london card, including drinks. So we ordered a bottle of wine with our food, and the food was ok, decent but not spectacular.

However when the bill came the wine was not discounted and the waiter had made a mistake telling us that the wine was on discount as well. We brought this up to the manager, as we would not have bought the bottle at all, and the least he could do was offer us some sort of compensation, however he raised his voice at us and made us feel like we made the mistake not the staff and wouldn't listen to us.

Would not go back again, and would recommend other places such as the chicago ribshack next door which has better food, ambience and service instead. Sorely dissapointed at how we were treated at the paxton's head, especially since my cousin was visiting and this left a bad impression of London for her.

Good morning anonymous my name is Phil Cooper and I am the new manager at the Paxtons Head. I am aware that there where some serious issues with the previous management. I have tried to address these and feel that we are now a far better and more organised venue with happier and more attentive staff. I do have a question for you and any one else that writes on these sites why do you not address the problem when it arises take it up with the venue and get it sorted. There is nothing worse than leaving some having not had a good time and not having done anything about it. Things can only get better if the management team what is going on. So if you care to come in and see me at the pub, I will do what I can to make your visit a happy one. Phil Cooper

Paxton's Head is a good place for an after work drink or lunch. Most of the people who go here are suits who work in the area. It's a cool old pub with an authentic wooden interior. Paxton's Head has an excellent menu and the food is always of a high standard. There is also a good choice of wines to wash down the food with.
