I was looking for a nice central London jazz bar on a Sunday evening and after checking out several places online charging up to £15 (a bit much for a Sunday in all honesty) decided to visit the (free) Piano bar accompanied by an old friend. I'd been to the other Piano bar in Kensington and so had a rough idea of what to expect. On arriving we were greeted by the door staff who kindly reminded us the band were on a break (nice touch, appreciated, no rush therefore to get a drink). The band area was tucked away at the back of a long bar with a decent sized audience with all seats taken. The piano looked amazing , it also functions as a bar with seats arranged around it although none of these were taken on the night (perhaps a bit too close to the band but am sure they would not have minded) A cool trio of jazz musicians soon appeared and over the next hour and a half played some delightful tunes - my favourite was the Pink Panther which was awesome. I managed a blues/jive partner dance with my friend to Moondance which the band seemed happy with! The pianist (who I later discovered is the owner) occasionally addressed the crowd with some honest humour and chit-chat which went down well. An appreciative audience clapped the end of every tune, the house wine went down well (nice and fruity with clean glasses) and the owner/pianist even had time for a quick chat at the end. A great evening out, highly recommended!
