The ViewLondon Review
With six rooms at your disposal and ample visual entertainment to keep you on your toes, it’s no wonder this bustling central venue has become a hit with Londoners looking for a big night out.
The Venue
In terms of a central location you can’t get much better than this one - it’s practically adjacent to Piccadilly Circus Tube station. Situated alongside the quirky Ripley’s Believe It or Not, it’s one of the latest venue launches from the expanding LateNightLondon group. When you enter the venue it’s not immediately clear where you should be going, how many rooms there are, and how you get to them, but the journey through is interesting nonetheless. There are in fact six rooms, laid out in what is aptly described as a labyrinth of bars that go by the names of Noir, Shrink, Clinic, Decadia, Fruitbox and Chamber. Each has a unique theme and covers bizarrely amalgamated decor ranging from dreamlike mannequins hanging from the ceiling in the Clinic, to the garden chill out space of the Fruitbox complete with a strangely colourful renaissance statue.
The Atmosphere
The atmosphere picks up quickly here and people are quite clearly excited; arriving in twos or larger groups they eagerly anticipate the pandemonium to come. The door policy is smart casual, jeans are frowned upon, and the majority of the clientele are more than willing to oblige. It gets busy so if you want a table, booking is essential. It’s got a great vibe and is undoubtedly a singles’ hot spot with some serious scouting taking place on the Clinic dance floor. If you’d prefer to sit with your group of friends, the tables in Noir offer a more intimate environment, with padded leather sofas around circular tables and even some seven-foot tall black sculptural masks thrown in to break up the space.
Throughout the night some welcome additions are dropped into this proverbial rabbit hole, including gorilla-masked employees who nonchalantly mill around, and possibly the coolest man ever to don a pair of stilts, who dances, shirt open, to the pumping house from the DJ booth.
The Music
From house and dance tracks to retro urban beats, you are bound to find something that tickles your fancy across the six rooms. Steve Smart (of Kiss fame) is a regular Saturday night DJ here and their Fridays are suitably named ‘the weekend starts here’.
The Food
They’ve got some great little nibbles for those who want a little lining for their bellies, including mini cheeseburgers with a tomato relish and dill pickle (£4.95), and giant potato wedges with a sour cream and chive dip (£4.50). They’ve also got some larger plates for £9.95 and sharing platters for around the same price.
The Drink
Candy coloured cocktails with enough sugar to keep you dancing all night are the way to go here and, at only £6.90 a pop, you’d be mad not to try one. Berry Haze, Bramble and Rock Candy are among the selection, all lusciously fruit-laden and deliciously decadent. There is also a pretty decent wine list, champagne cocktails and shooters. Happy hour operates daily from 5-8pm, when drinks are two for one.
The Last Word
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are looking for something quirkier than the average West End club and like the idea of staff dressed as gorillas and stilt-walking entertainers, then a trip into this wonderland could be just what you are looking for.
