The ViewLondon Review
Taking up a prime spot of real estate overlooking Wandsworth Common, Piccolino is already causing a stir. The VenueStylish and spacious, Piccolino as a venue doesn’t disappoint. The design uses clean modern lines on everything from the lighting to the furniture. Wooden decor is mixed with red seating and arched doorway cut outs.
The floor space is vast and one side of the restaurant extends into a fishbowl of glass, which curves from wall into ceiling and offers a magnificent view sweeping over the common.
The AtmosphereFriendly Italian waiters make it feel as though you really could be in Italy whilst the restaurant is filled with the sound of friendly laughter from the surrounding tables. Despite its size, Piccolino still manages to feel welcoming as everybody around you seems to be enjoying their meal and the polished surroundings.
The FoodStandard Italian staples with the obligatory pizza, pasta and carne sections adorn the menu. There is a decent selection of seafood, and unlike so many other UK restaurants, the prawns actually have a bit of meat on them. Steak is cooked to perfection and you won’t be disappointed by the list of desserts: sorbets, cheesecake and melt-in-your-mouth chocolate pudding. With such an appetising menu, you’ll be forgiven for thinking there’s a genuine Italian nonna cooking in the kitchen.
The DrinkThe dishes are accompanied by a fine selection of Italian wines which deliver just the right balance for your palate. The adjoining bar offers a good selection of beer and cocktails too, so there's no reason to move on after dinner.
The Last WordAlready making waves in Wandsworth, Piccolino is bound to become a restaurant that will find itself on many must-visit lists.
