The ViewLondon Review
Piccolino is a vibrant up market Italian restaurant and bar, that brings a fresh taste of Italy to the centre of London. The VenueThis eatery is situated just off Regent Street in the charming enclave of Heddon Street, which provides a peaceful oasis to the usual bustle of the area. Piccolino has all the charm usually associated with traditional brasseries. The interior is bright and airy with an inviting bar on the ground floor, intimate booth seating. There’s also an aesthetically pleasing alfresco dining area consisting of barricaded off wooden slats coupled with tasteful greenery. Meanwhile, the downstairs provides two private dining rooms which are tastefully done out in red leather, which would be perfect for many occasions including a business brunch, or dinner to a private party.
The AtmosphereThere are quite a few Italian patrons who give Piccolino an authentic Mediterranean feel. It’s a bustling ambiance with lots of action but this is let down by the slow service, particularly in busy periods when you can be waiting for quite some time. It’s best to come when you have lots of time to spend.
The FoodPiccolino’s menus offer a wonderful array of both modern and classic Italian dishes. The beauty here is that they use the finest quality seasonal ingredients for everything, including bread and ice cream which are freshly made on the premises. There is a choice of the usual Italian favourites including a creamy wild mushroom risotto, classic pasta dishes, stone baked pizzas and succulent meat and fresh fish dishes. Try the crispy duck served with honey glazed apples and a red wine sauce which is a taste sensation.
The dessert menu will entice diners with trusted favourites such as a tiramisu with a vanilla mascarpone base and a Limoncello cheesecake. The iced hazelnut praline mousse and white peach and raspberry sorbets are highly recommended.
The DrinkAlso highly recommended are the pre-dinner cocktails including a superb cosmopolitan. There are a number of Italian whites which feature highly on the list with the Frascati being a light and delicately balanced selection. Dessert wines feature some good choices including grappa, moscato and verdicchio. Try the lemon and amaretto liqueurs if you are feeling more daring.
The Last WordPiccolino delivers a taste of Italy right in the heart of London with an ethos of fresh quality food served up against a stunning backdrop for all to gaze upon.
