A smaller example in the Pitcher and Piano chain, the Holborn branch is pumping most nights of the week with trendy suits looking to have a drink or five and let their hair down.

The Venue
On Kingsway, Pitcher and Piano Holborn has to compete with lots of similar chain bars. The niche that this place fits into is it’s not just full of dull City types having a drink after work thanks to the cooler businesspeople looking to really relax - and so the decor echoes this ethos.

The place is decked out in a chic palette of dark woods with moody, soft lighting to bring out the lack of colour, making the people stand out and the background just blend in together. The space is split up into a large bar area, a small cove-like seating area and an upstairs lounge. Though this breaks up the crowd, it allows people to do what they want to do; either get tucked away in corner with a cocktail or mingle with a large group by the bar.

The Atmosphere
On most weeknights, this place is packed with after work drinkers in their twenties to forties out to have a good time with friends. The room is always buzzing with noise as people chat and laugh the night away over a cocktail or five, but each different area has a unique vibe. In the smaller rooms there’s a cosy feeling of comfort, whilst in the large rooms there’s a lively vibrancy that keeps the atmosphere upbeat and fun. The place is regularly booked up for parties as it’s an ideal size and has a long bar to keep partygoers happy for hours.

The Drink
To keep the element of sophisticated fun going, the bar focuses on lots of cocktails on their bar menu. Don’t expect anything too daring here, the cocktails are mainly the classics such as mojitos and margaritas, and the ingredients aren’t world class although above average, especially with the not too expensive prices of around £6 for a decent-sized cocktail.

There are plenty of shots for those who want to get a group of friends well and truly cheerful, with B52s amongst the legendary favourites. There’s a good selection of affordable wine with nothing too exceptional to blow your mind.

The Last Word
Pitcher and Piano Holborn is a modern bar with a refreshing take on drinking for City workers who want to truly relax and have fun.
