With not much to be proud of except a large contingent of old men, this pub doesn’t live up to its confident name.

The Venue
On a lovely residential street in suburban Pimlico, yet lodged into an unwelcoming estate, the Pride of Pimlico catches the eye due to the plastic green furniture outside, where people smoke away. Step inside and the stale smell of alcohol and cigarettes from either pre-smoking ban, or the clientele, hits you instantly. The pub itself is small, with the bar being the first thing you see. A number of mature local residents seem to have made the bar their home, with cigarette packets, glasses and newspapers scattered around. The originally dark blue - now worn-out furniture and carpet - highlights the age of the pub, and sporting pictures and football shirts line the walls.

The Atmosphere
The pub’s crowd is made up of two types of men. The first either sit in silence at the bar in their own world with their pint, or quietly watch the TV, muttering every now and then at the various sportsmen on the screen. The second type sit around the large round table in the middle, swapping stories and listening to each other intently, occasionally howling with laughter, something that creates a friendly atmosphere for those involved. If you’re not a regular though, you’ll feel out of place and uncomfortable in spite of the friendly landlord behind the bar.

The Drink
The drinks aren’t too varied, with John Smith, Strongbow, Stella and Carlsberg on tap for over £3 a pint. Other than that the drinks selection is limited, as there seems to be little wine on offer, but there are the basic spirits available to please those in the mood for something stronger than a pint.

The Last Word
Unless you’re nearing the other side of middle age, and male, this pub is unlikely to appeal to you.
