In Shoreditch and fancy a change from the uber-trendy bars? It might seem as if you've entered a time-warp, but a pint in this East End boozer is bound to please.

The Venue
In an area where new bars full of twentysomething cool cats open nearly every day, it's pleasant to know East End boozers such as the Pride of Spitalfields are still thriving among them. Close to Liverpool Street and Aldgate East stations and sat off a side street on Brick Lane, this pub undoubtedly has a great location. From the outside, it's a funny house-shaped building with a couple of beer umbrellas and ledges for the smokers to rest their pint on.

Once inside the Pride of Spitalfields, it's exactly what you'd imagine an old boozer of its kind to look like - think dated curtains, bright red carpet, an open fire, piano and bottles lining the bar. There's a small seating area reserved for those who want their roast on a Sunday, a hatch at the back, and there's even a resident cat. When there's footy on, a screen at the back gets pulled down.

The Atmosphere
Without any prior knowledge of this place, you might have some reservations about entering. However, The Pride of Spitalfields doesn't have a horrid locals-only vibe, which pubs of this kind so typically have. Traditional East Enders mingle alongside trendy youngsters and neither seem to think the mix matters, which is great.

The Food
Alongside a rather interesting selection of crisps served behind the bar (though, be warned, no nuts), the Pride of Spitalfields also serves food between 12am-2pm every day and roast dinners on a Sunday. Expect to find a selection of British sandwiches and hot meals, all reasonably priced for the area.

The Drink
This traditional boozer works hard to satisfy its customers with a good range of beers, ciders and spirits, and unlike other some of the neighbouring bars, the drinks are a lot cheaper. It's a Fullers pub, so serves Pride and ESP and has a good range of guest ales on offer - think Brewers Gold and Doom Bar. Ciders include Strongbow and Magners. Expect to pay around £3-£4 for a pint and £3.50 for a vodka and diet Coke.

The Last Word
Friendly, cosy and undiscovered - this really is the Pride of Spitalfields.
