If you like being cheated out of your change by the bar staff you mist come here also the manager will tell you by email customers are always on a scam so if you want to be called a scamer make this pub your next stop cos i am keeping away from a badly run pub by staff and manager.

You might as well chuck your money down the toilet..... this place is crying out for new management..... After reading the poor reviews i thought it can't be that bad, given its fantastic location - but it woz... Thankfully we only had bar food instead of joining the real muppets in the restaurant. First, they only had about half the food on the bar menu available, this was only revealed after payment had been taken, when alternative cheaper options were shown no discount was offered, third when the so called Beegam freezer section food turned up it was only half of what we ordered, fourth the gimp in the led zeplin shirt behind the bar then just walked away as we complained. Is this how you operate a retail establishment in the credit crunch??.... Finally after complaining again we did get two free pints, but quite frankly by this stage the larger had gone sour...
Please, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey, Gary Rhodes take this place over as it has the location and image…

I stumbled across the Prince Alfred (Or "PA" as its known locally) after doing a pub crawl with some friends based on the book, "Britains Strangest Pubs". Its inclusion in the book was based on the intricately carved timber screens that separate the main bar into 5 little rooms. Each room can be accessed from a door onto the road and the low level doors in the timber partitions were originally for the use of the cleaners in the mornings to allow easy access rather than having to go around on the street. It also has a rather interesting "Snob Screen" between the bar and one of the compartments that allowed customers to order drinks without having to look at the bar maid!

I have been a regular customer for a number of years, but I will say that its gone a little down hill. It now plays music and I was in there last night and it got to the point where it was difficult to hear people. It was also rather annoying that two compartments were hired out to private parties - the two biggest, which probably represented 60% of the floor space. So us Plebs were all cramed into the small compartments whilst the two parties had all the space! You also got dagger stares from the revellers if you dared to walk though the compartments to go to the toilet rather than go around the outside on the street.

Finally, the biggest bug bear for me is simple; It is now over £4 a pint! And a packet of crisps are £1.20! Which for an old fashioned boozer also owned by Youngs is really horrific.I have eaten at the restaurant before and generally been impressed although it was a tad expensive but this was a while ago, so the info is probably out of date.

When it closed we moved onto E Bar litterally a stones throw away and although we only spent about half an hour there, I was much more impressed - it was quiet, friendly, trendy and quite a lot cheaper. I shall certainly try it again, but I wonder whether my love affair with the geeky, characterful PA is at an end

Last visit was a fortnight ago, my wife and I love the place.

The surroundings are real and we have always had great food during our numerous visits.

Only scoring 1 star as I can't score 0, been to the Prince Alfred twice now. The first time I found the staff pretty rude but put up with it in that typical british way.

The second time my girlfriend had ordered me the wrong pint so whilst still at the bar with a full pint I asked if they could change it, the responce was short and sharp, "Its already been paid for"

I asked to talk to the manager about the mistake to which a stonefaced women walked over and told me they were not going to change the drink then informed the staff not to serve us no more????

Very rude staff, over priced drinks and for those who like me have wear a hat to hide their reseeding hairline don't bother this pub seems to have a no hats dress code.

are you sure you have been to The Prince Alfred in Maida Vale and not the one in Bayswater as they are famous for their harsh no hat policy and not so friendly staff??

I frequented this pub often when I lived in Maida Vale on Sutherland Avenue, and it looks as beautiful now as it was then.. long ago.. in the late 70s. Hope to return soon!

Really like this pub, great character, see the 'View London Review' for details, its all tru. The staff can occasionally be a bit cheeky but good if your in a big group and up for some friendly banter. Food service can be a little slow but this just gives you time to admire the interior, definately recommend taking friends there who are visiting the area and then take a pleasant walk through Little Venice afterwards...

We have been going to the Prince Alfred for years and love the place. The new management have certainly left their mark and this place is great. The food is reasonably priced and there is excellent service. It's so rare to visit a pub with friendly staff who genuinely seem to enjoy what they do - keep it up. Perhaps you could train some of the other pubs in the area who seem unable to do this! We can't wait for the new brunch they are about to start.

Likewise! My plate was dirty, we complained and had to force them to take off the service from the bill. And the manager hid from us. The Prince Alfred has lost the plot. Never again after five years as a regular patron...

The Prince Alfred has slow service and disappointing food. We had a minute serving of thin very hard to cut over-cooked tastless pork, with semi-raw parsnip and leathery Yorkshire pudding, and three cheap chicken pieces claiming to be coq au vin, and was mostly bone. The kitchen staff at Prince Alfred had make the food go further instructions. Never, never again.

Went to the Prince Alfred for my birthday last week. Beautiful surroundings and food (best fresh fish in North West London!).

The prices at the Prince Alfred are reasonable and the staff helpful and fun. I had a fantastic night, they really made a fuss of me when they found out it was my birthday. Go, go, go.

Prince Alfred was once lovely however, on Saturday, my friends and I were treated to surly service and, from one of the waitresses, aggression. I see from other reviews that time pressure is clearly not something the Prince Alfred handles well these days. Don't p*ss your customers off, guys – they won't come back.

Really like it at this Prince Alfred. It is a cool Victorian type of pub that has great decor. The crowd that go here can be a bit pretentious, but you can ignore that. The Prince Albert has a dining room attached that has excellent value for money food.
