The ViewLondon Review
If you don’t mind a squeeze then you’ll enjoy the buzz of a pub that’s much more than just a local.
The Venue
Hidden on a leafy side street just off of Queensbridge Road, The Prince George isn’t such a secret anymore. A large Victorian building, there is more than you might expect within. A bar sits adjacent to the entrance and from there the pub leads you into its darker depths where it seems to whip out room after room. There are plenty of tables in what is a fairly basic space; it seems they have decided to keep it all very simple, besides the stuffed animals. Where can you find a pool table these days? Right here, in the handy pool room out back.
The Atmosphere
‘Glower much?’ You might think about the staff behind the bar, but get your drink, sit down and all is good. The jukebox plays along to the buzz here, and you won’t find many evenings where the pub’s not rammed by nine o’clock, but that’s the fun of it. The Monday quiz is good fun and the pool table is a rarity these days so it’s hardly a surprise that its pleasures attract a mixture of old school locals and the area’s influx of more recent residents.
The Drink
The Prince George serves all the usual spirits and maintains a small wine list, but there are also Belgian beers in the fridges, giving it a worldly rub. Litovel is the go-to pump for lager and there’s also a selection of real ale that includes London Pride. Drinks are pricey here at more than £3.50 for a pint of Guinness.
The Last Word
The Prince George serves its regulars well. If you’re looking for a relaxing drink then you’ll find it here, but you’ll often find much more besides.
