I will never go back. The food was ok but there are plenty of places which do the same, if not better. The worst thing about the place is the service. The barman is really rude, arrogant and has no manner. We booked the table at 7.30 and was told they could only do 7 and we would have to finish at 8.30. So we turned up on time, ordered food as soon as we sat down and even got the bill all paid up by 8.15. Before we can put our coats on, the barman came and told us to leave because the next table has arrived, early. The attitude was totally unacceptable, even walked away in the middle of our complaint. There is plenty of competition in Islington and there is absolutely no reason to go back to a place where I was not treated as a customer.
Simply the rudest bar staff in town. We visited more than once in order to give them a chance. An odious little venue worth avoiding.
I've visited this place a few times as I like the decor and its just out of the way but still easy to find. The food was pretty good, but a little overpriced and over hyped in my opinion. The reason I give Public House 2 stars is that I just don't get the barman (possibly owner). I found him rude. I've been back a few times hoping things would change but sadly they've not. So its a no go for me anymore. If you do go I hope you enjoy it, but don't ask for a coke, they don't serve it and you don't want to sit through the pretentious reasons why. All in all it just falls a little below average for me.
Do not go there. I am not sure how they managed that but the owners have managed to get viewlondon to delete almost all the negative comments of Public House. It was quite funny as they had been caught out writing flattering reviews about themselves. Anyway if I was to summarise the food is average, the service worse and the owners/barmen spend more time coming onto this site writing about themselves then serving customers. Do not get fooled.
Loved it here. Fantastic cocktails, great staff (friendly, helpful, not over the top), very tasty food which came very well presented, fab atmosphere and overall great value for money. I will be returning again and again.
We had some old friends over from Sweden and went to Public House on the night of the royal wedding expecting to find it very busy but it was actually pretty quiet which was a surprise, anyway, we had a good round table so it was very sociable. So we had a few cocktails and some dinner. There was a Whiskey Julip with rosewater in that was one of the nicest cocktails with whisky I have tried. The food was all well presented and tasting good and service was very friendly and laid back.
Tried Public House after seeing a fair bit of twitter activity and was very happy with my experience. We had dinner but on the sofas as it was a quiet night and everything was pretty good. Service was friendly, food tasty and wine was cold, no complaints at all really.
My boyfriend and I love Public House. The bartenders are really friendly and seem to know everyone's name. The drinks are really yummy too and the food looks great. Will be going back to try dinner there.
