We visited Queens Head and Artichoke for a Sunday lunch and we reasonably impressed with the standard of the food (1 beef, 1 pork), although this kind of fayre can be found in any gastro-pub in central London. However, beware staff very unresponsive and one may go as far to say down right rude. We were perplexed by this attitude until we received the bill at which point we could clearly see that a 12.5% service charge had been added to the bill (which was almost thrown at us) removing any choice we might have had in the matter (2 roasts + 2 soft drinks + service = £33.39).

I would like to suggest that this is a disincentive for staff to behave in a civilised manner and we will not be returning solely for that reason. Word of advice: if you want half decent food served by pleasant staff do not go to the Queens Head and Artichoke instead go to any of the dozens gastro-pubs within zone one.

The Queens Head and Artichoke is usually a good bet for a few drinks. It’s a lovely building and the food looks great. My one concern is that the staff aren’t always that friendly – they’re not rude or anything but I think they could try to be more welcoming.

That said, I’m sure I’ll be going back to The Queens Head and Artichoke some time soon.

The Queen's Head and Artichoke serves excellent food - mostly modern European with plenty of choice. The menu changes daily and a tapas menu is also available. The upstairs dining room has been restored to its original Victorian apperance. Can be a bit nosiy when office parties are catered for.
