The ViewLondon Review
Small and intimate, the Queens Larder is a relaxing place for lunch or a quiet drink in the evening. The VenueNamed for the cellar that Queen Charlotte rented to store special delicacies for her sick husband King George, the Queens Larder - which sits on top of where the cellar would have been - is appropriately filled with a perceivable sense of tradition.
The pub itself is tiny and decorated with red roses to match the red and black ceiling. The dim room is quaint and warm with a local feel. The only things that might appear a bit out of character are the musical posters hung up around the room. If the inside is a little cramped, there's plenty of bench seating overlooking the square on a warm day.
The AtmosphereLocated on the corner of Queens Square, the Queens Larder is frequented by locals who give off an air of sophistication. The bar staff are the centre of attention – in a good way! This is a really comfortable place to come for a meal or bottle of wine. The small size and intimate setting means that it's best to come with only one or two people - or dogs as "well behaved dogs are always welcome".
The FoodThere's a good looking menu at the Queens Larder with tempting dishes like mushroom risotto. Unfortunately, it’s a little overpriced with mains costing upwards of £9. Also bear in mind that the kitchen is only open for lunch since the tiny pub probably couldn't accommodate the large crowd that a dinner service would draw.
The DrinkSurprisingly, the drinks at the Queens Larder are nothing unique. Greene King beers are on tap including IPA and Old Speckled Hen, as well as a few others including Stella and Leffe Blonde. They also use those individual bottles of juice and soda water, which make you feel a little better about the higher than usual prices.
The Last WordThe romantic setting of the Queens Larder makes it a good place to cosy up with someone special - especially if they're paying!
