The ViewLondon Review

One of a popular chain of vodka bars, with Revolution you know what you’re getting: reasonably priced cocktails, a party atmosphere and decent food (with a conscience!). This is definitely one of the better chains out there.

The Venue
If you are a lover of all things vodka, then Revolution is definitely the venue for you. A trendy bar, this is part of the popular chain across London, containing smoked glass mirrors, plenty of leather seating and two plasma screens. There’s also an additional upstairs space that is mostly used during the busy weekend period but is also available for private parties. Up here, there are several booths that are great for a group and another manned bar. This is a light, airy venue with glitter balls and a fun curtain of red and clear glass bottles at the windows.

The Atmosphere
Revolution is a typical metro bar. It has a real buzzy atmosphere and – at weekends especially – is usually filled with Clapham’s party-happy crowds. It has quite a young following with the majority of the clientele consisting of attractive twentysomethings. The soundtrack in the background – courtesy of a DJ at weekends – is a funky mix of house and commercial dance, alongside chart hits to get the toes tapping. It gets very busy at peak times with groups and parties visiting, not really a place for a romantic date but definitely somewhere if you’re up for a laugh with mates.

The Food
There is good food with a conscience at Revolution - all the chicken is free range, beef is grass fed and the fish is from sustainable stock and eggs are organic. Starters and lights start from £3.95 for soup, or a dish of chicken Milanese is £5.95. Platters are also available and include an oriental sharer platter for £9.95, a veggie mezze or a Revolution combo (Mexican). Sandwiches, paninis and wraps start at £5.25 and include such choices a warm Mediterranean chicken panini or a sirloin steak grilled sandwich. Mains are priced from £6.95 for a veggie Revolution stack: roasted pumpkin, aubergine, spinach and grilled goats cheese.

If you’re heading over earlier in the day then there’s a breakfast brunch on offer all day from £3.95 and a 15 minute lunch promise, which states if you’re in a rush from 11am-3pm and you’re not served within a quarter of an hour then lunch is on them!

The Drink
The main focus here is on vodka: cocktails, shots – you name it, they do it. That said, there is also a good choice of beers with Stella, Guinness, Becks Vier, Staropramen, Poretti and Strongbow available on draught. Bulmers cider, Sol, Leffe, Stella, Peroni, Tiger and Koppaberg cider are on sale bottled.

Wine isn’t left out either, starting at just £13 for a bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc with Pinot Grigio at £4 a glass. An Australian Merlot is £13 rising to £18 for a bottle of Rioja. If you fancy something a bit more upmarket then Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne is £38, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is £48 and Veuve Clicquot rose is £60.

Cocktails are the big hitter here, however, and cost £5.95. A Del Boy (Russian vodka, pineapple juice, blue Curacao and Teichenne coconut liqueur) is a popular choice. Shots are £2.25 and doubles £3.50. A six shot vodka lane is £11 or a ten shot decathlon is £17. There is a massive assortment of different flavours from chilli and porridge to rhubarb and custard. Pitchers all contain at least six shots of liquor and are from £15.

The Last Word
Revolution is a trendy, fun bar aimed at fun loving vodka drinkers that is great for groups of girls and lads on a night out. This bar should definitely go on your list.
