Overzealous borderline "thuggy" security staff lacking in the most basic of interpersonal skills. After having one small glass of wine and returning from the designated smoking area, I was denied entrance as I was told "you have had far too much too drink". Since when does one drink constitute being inebriated? When I asked for the manager as I wasn't allowed to retrieve my briefcase from inside, I was accused of "causing a scene" (interesting, as it was security whose voices became loud to the point of "shouting", kissing their teeth at me and not vice versa). I asked the manager for his name as I wanted to make an official complaint and I was told "i am the person with the highest authority you will be dealing with". Erm, newsflash, you weren't, it was the area manager, who sent me the most anaemic of replies to my complaint. Regardless. In short? Avoid Revolution Bar Leadenhall like the plague, I'm waiting to eventually read a report of security being charged with assault one of these days. Consider yourself forewarned. I'd give Revolution Bar Leadenhall "no stars" if it were possible.
It might be the bankers and fund managers who get the press, but where would the City of London be without the secretaries and low grade admin workers who travel in to work from Essex and the Home Counties every day. And it is precisely these people - the blond-orange bimbos and wannabe barrow boys who frequent places like the Revolution Bar on a Thursday and Friday night. Which is a shame, because the grand building and stylish interiors of this spacey bar should set it apart from the regular, horrific, City meat markets (Abacus, Apt etc). Unfortunately, they don't. Chavvy clientele, slow bar service and door staff who think they are somehow special mean that the potential of this bar/restaurant is never realised. Very disappointing.
I found booking a table at Revolution Bar Leadenhall to be a laborious process, and did not like being asked for my date of birth (which is 1981 since you asked), my phone number and my email address - this felt like an undue collection of personal data. The person taking the booking also tried to sell my pre-ordered food and drink, and asked whether I wanted to be on the mailing list, which I felt to be too much of the hard-sell at the wrong time. Upon arriving, the doorman asked me to take my hat off (it was a warm woolly hat, and I would of course have taken it off once inside) which struck me as pretentious and unwelcoming. We had booked a booth in the bar area downstairs, but on arrival we were told all the tables were taken and were seated on the mezzanine level instead. This made it difficult for our friends to find us, particularly as the stairs to the upper level had been inexplicably roped off, so nobody could wander up and find us there. The drinks were mediocre, with no fresh juice in the cocktails, only sweetened stuff from concentrate and various other syrups. The music was so obnoxiously loud that we couldn't hear each other (it was a Thursday night). All in all, a very disappointing experience, and we will not be coming back - the overall vibe was of a company that doesn't understand customer relations, marketing, decent drinks, or the social function of music. Instead we felt sucked into someone else's "process" for whom money-spinning is the primary consideration and a love of food, drink and social atmosphere are completely alien. On the plus side, the space is amazing - an impressive high-ceiling, stylish art deco, well lit - and if you do go check out the vault in the basement by the loos.
Revolution is probably one of the best bars in London. The staff are nice, expecially Albion. And no, I don't fancy him...... ok maybe.
Its's a fun place to be in, especially of Friday evenings.
I also disagree with the other posts here. I went to Revolution one Saturday night a few weeks ago and absolutely loved the place! It's best to go on the bars website and sign up for the guestlist to avoid the inevitable long queues.
The bar staff are good however due to the clubs popularity it does take around 15-20 mins to get served... drinks are expensive but well worth the price. The club downstairs is great with fantastic music however queues can be long to get into the club room so best to head for downstairs early on in the evening.
The venue is really well done, I loved the vault where the walls are lined with safety deposit boxes.. the atmosphere is great and everyone was dressed very smartly. A fantastic night out!!
I have to disagree with the other posts here, I loved Revolution. The Vault champagne bar was amazing and the club was great fun (especially the vodka scnapps sticks). Great party atmosphere and friendly people. It took a while to get served - no way 50 mins, about 15 and this was on a Friday night - what do you expect from a lively, popular place? I'll definitely be going back.
an hour to get a drink from a wiater or waitress but what i found priceless about this over-hyped meat market is that if you book a table for a party or event weeks in advance, don't expect it to happen once you get there!! a bunch of fellas tipped a waitress and took our two tables. asked to see a manager...never did.
stay clear of this place. too many other great venues in the City.
Was in Revolution last Thursday... and left after having only one drink. It took 50 miniutes at the bar to get the drink. The bar in club was very busy but bartenders v v v slow and the person who served me did not know what sea breeze is!
