The ViewLondon Review
An unbelievably amiable, cosy atmosphere in a grand pub in the swish area of Old Park Lane. The VenueThe grand, almost over the top decor at the Rose and Crown hits you as soon you step in from the London streets. The warmth of red, gold and brown contrasts the grey and black of outside and envelopes you with a cosy feeling. The space itself is large, with vibrant, rich old fashioned curtains, big gilted mirrors and an impressive fireplace to catch your eye. The chairs and tables are well spaced out, and the soothing glow from the gorgeous intricate antique lights brings everything together well. The colours may overwhelm you slightly as they’re veer on the garish side, but the light from outside stops it from becoming too much.
The AtmosphereMany of the staff at the Rose and Crown are American and, instead of demeaning the British nature of the pub, it enhances it as there’s always friendly banter and laughter from both sides are the bar. The customers are mostly regulars who hold this pub as one of their firm favourites for its relaxed, cheerful atmosphere, but random people stumble upon it daily - young and old, posh and casual, workers and tourists.
The DrinkJust like most pubs, the Rose and Crown offers a good selection of beers and real ales, giving the customers exactly what they want. There’s also a global selection of wines, which are relatively affordable at a top whack of £16 a bottle. The spirit selection is basic and not cheap, but it’s enough to keep most punters happy. The dining room upstairs serves hearty British food in a classier environment than the roaring pub downstairs, giving you a traditional break from the modern city.
The Last WordRose and Crown can be summed up as a lively pub that’s packed full of character and always a fun place for a drink.
