The Rosslyn Arms has a great atmosphere but time and again, we notice that the waiting staff just does not seem to be preoccupied with guests, while the kitchen is slow and food quality varies considerably.
We ordered starters and pizzas and had to wait for more than an hour for the starters to arrive. One of them was burnt and when we raised this with the waiter, he rudely took it away and put it on the bar. When finally the pizzas arrived about 20 minutes later, his colleague picked up the burnt starter, which hadn't moved from the bar in the meantime, and asked if we did not want it...
Overall, the Rosslyn Arms is disappointing if you are looking for anything more than drinks.
Abysmal service, average pizzas.
Jaw droppingly bad and rude service, pizzas arriving 20 minutes apart, (the chef rudely told us when we asked that "this wasn't fast food") The last pizza that arrived, after one person on the table had already finished his, was not what had been ordered. The chef argued then admitted he'd made a mistake, but it would 20 minutes for another one, when we asked for a refund we were told it was the same price as the one we'd ordered so couldn't have one(?!). Eventually a refund was given.
We were then followed out of the restaurant after we left and accused of not paying. We insisted we had, and the waitress went back in, only to return again and accused us again, in the street, of not paying, we again insisted that we had and showed her the receipt. I pointed out that before accusing customers of trying to leave without paying, that she should check with the rest of her useless team as to whether they had paid. She told me I wasn't welcome to come back. I pointed out that unless I wanted the wrong pizza and to be accused of stealing I was hardly likely to.
Sadly the 2 for 1 pizzas are of random quality. We had 2 pamplonas. One was fine, the other somewhat burnt. We complained. Members of staff told us that one pizza was free so they would not replace it. The manager was apparently upstairs but did not come down. We drank up and left vowing never to return. Sad- it's not at all a bad bar otherwise.
I went to the Rosslyn Arms last Sunday on my way to the tube for what I thought would a quick pint and a listen to a soft acoustic tune.
What I experienced blew me away! The music was incredible. There was a Texan expat delivering spot on rock-a-billy and blues energy, accompanied by a brilliant (and I do mean brilliant) ex Fleetwood Mac lead guitarist,(Bob Weston) a phenom blues harmonica player and excellent acoustic and electric guitar player.
The crowd was totally into the music. I have frequented other more touted blues and live music bars in the London area, but this topped the charts.
I found the staff to be very accomodating and service oriented and the pizza was very good, (wood fired brick oven). I would have to rate this pub tops for Hampstead, hands down.
