The ViewLondon Review

Review bySamantha Jenkins02/06/2008
With the River Thames being so central to London’s sightseeing culture it’s no surprise that venues are making the most of it as bars and restaurants on boats spring up all over London. RS Hispaniola is one of the best examples of this popular trend.

The Venue
Moored on the River Thames, overlooking the London Eye, you will find the Hispaniola Bar. Open all day, this fully air conditioned boat has lots to offer with two restaurants, a cocktail bar and function rooms available to hire. A big plasma screen is situated on the upper deck, which has a more casual, bistro feel and serves tapas all day.

The Atmosphere
Unlike its local counterparts, there is a more sophisiticated air at Hispaniola Bar; linen tablecloths and waiters dashing around gives a formal appearance. This is a popular venue for tourists who wish to drink in the panoramic views of our great capital, whilst relaxing on the gently bobbing river.

The Food
There are two menus available to choose from: tapas is available starting at £4.75, with a dish of Langoustines setting you back £10.50. Desserts range from £4.50. If you want a smaller portion, you could try the Light Bites menu with prices starting at £6.80 for a good old spag bol. The a la carte menu has lots of seafood on offer but as with all the menus there is also a choice for vegetarians. Starters and desserts are from £4.95, mains from £14.50.

The Drink
Boasting the finest wine cellar on the River Thames, you will not be disappointed by the choice. House wines range from £13.95 for a bottle of Codornio, rising to £35.50 for a bottle of Red Chateuneuf du Pape. Rose Cabernet Sauvignon is a very reasonable £13.95 a bottle. Champagne is £7.50 a glass or you could push the boat out (pardon the pun!) and buy a bottle of Dom Perignon for a mere £140 – and what better place to celebrate?

Spirits range from £2.95 for a single measure and there is an eclectic choice of cocktails for £5.95. A decent choice of bottled lager stocks the bar, including Bud, San Miguel and Stella with beer and cider also available. However, all food and drink prices are currently under review so the prices may increase in the future.

The Last Word
For a sophisticated dining experience aboard a beautiful boat look no further than the Hispaniola Bar. With two lovely restaurants, a well stocked bar and stunning views this is definitely top of the list.
