The Sands end is a charming, quirky pub hidden away from it all perfect for a relaxing Sunday lunch. That is exactly what we had. The staff were friendly and chatty and we were well looked after by our waiter.
The food was fantastic my roast beef was beautifully cooked and I was impressed with how tender it was at 3 o clock in the afternoon. i then had a good hearty crumble to follow all accompanied with a good well recommended bottle/s of red.
My only jibe was were informed at 5 that they would need the table back for dinner at 6. This may have been more helpful if we had been informed this when we booked. Although on that point they did organise a table at the front for us to move to and carry on into the evening.
Myself and my guests really enjoyed ourselves and I was happy and impressed with the food and service, I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone.
As a Elgin City fan, believe me I know shit when I see it. But nothing could have prepared me for the sunday lunch at the Sandsend.
The turnips tasted like ballsack, there was no gravy and the yorkshire puddings and beef were cold. I wasn't wearing lipstick at the time but I left feeling i had just been shafted. I don't mind paying a premium for the quality of food and service but they had neither. For £30+ I would have expected to be jacked off at least.
Great place to have a drink tho.

I'm forced to rate this place one star, but if I could have given it zero I would've done. I found it obnoxious.
Yes, other reviewers refer to a calmness at Sands End. We too were sucked in by that apparent attribute.
In reality, it is quite different. What masquerades as simplicity, manifests itself as high priced arrogance.
We arrived for Sunday lunch. Greeted by polite public school boys, we were shown to our table right by the ladies room.
Ignoring that, the politeness soon ebbed away. These kids are out of their depth. The table service was incompetent, and when things started to go wrong they hid behind platitudes to cover up the problems in the kitchen.
After an hour and a quarter waiting for the main course, we were told ours was up next. 20 minutes after that, we were told 5 mins. 15 minutes after that it arrived.
The French kid who became our waiter over time became increasingly flustered, and by the time I asked to pay the bill he had become insolent.
We left two and a half hours after we arrived, unimpressed by the short boring menu, and feeling distinctly unwelcome.
What Sands End needs to realize is that you can't charge these prices and deliver poor service. Moreover, the food's got to be quite good. They failed on both counts. NEVER AGAIN.
If you’re looking for good British food, a small but complimentary selection of wines and the company of young professionals, the Sands End is definitely a place to frequent.
Being a local on-and-off for the past 2 years, not much has changed with the exception of few new bartenders. Walking in from Stephendale Rd, you are hit with scent of calmness; older couples browsing the daily broadsheets, a few public school boys reminiscing about younger days while enjoying an ale and quietly in the corner, a quartet of rather attractive 20 somethings plotting their next girly weekend while sipping on a chilled bottle of pinot. But it’s nothing like the Imperial Arms on Kings Rd where most clientele survive on an intravenous drip of funds from Mummy and Daddy. Diversity is what makes the ambiance irresistible.
It could be easily said that with this type of simplicity there is a ‘fee’. Mains start at £8 and the only oil you will find on the menu would probably be in the form of truffle on a bed of mushroom risotto, Wines are moderately prices and a Pint of Star is a respectable £3.30. As a starter, I’d definitely recommend the scotch eggs (£2) and or the Colchester oyster in red wine vinaigrette for £1.20 each.
Irrespective of the weather, The Sands End is a place where you can enjoy good food, good wine and people looking for a good time. I’ve just moved back a week ago (4th July) and surprisingly, 3 nights out of 5 – I’ve found myself sitting outside with my flatmates for a quite debrief of the days activity.

The Too So Bar is my local and has been for a wee while now. I really like the place on major sporting events which they play on the big screen (it seems everyone else in Fulham has the same idea). The Too So Bar really packs out and spills onto the pavement- definitely a good spot to down a few.
