I hadn't been to the Satay Bar for years until last week my friend suggested we meet there after work. I was really happy to note that they have really improved on the ambiance of the place. It was busy but all the diners looked like they were enjoying themselves and the vibe was really relaxed.

I really enjoyed both my cocktail [Mojito] and my food [I had the Lamb Massaman with coconut rice] It was fantastic to rediscover this great restaurant in South London. I had forgotten how great it is! I will definitely go again.

My best restrurant by far. Good value for money. Great cocktails and great food. Never disappionted when I go there. I love Satay Bar!

Last night my partner and 2 friends went there for the first time in 8 years.
Before we even entered, my partner was asked by the burly bouncer (who himself had a hat on) to remove his cap, only to walk in and see three other people inside with their caps on!
The waiter then proceeded to show us to a table for 2 when there were 4 of us.
After waiting 20 mins to order, we waited another 20 mins for our drinks (which weren't even cocktails.)
The starters arrived and my partner and I had ordered a Satay platter to share. The squid was not cooked, and the lamb was so tough it looked (and tasted) like it had been cooked many night's before and reheated. The prawn satay was one tiny prawn holding on for dear life to the satay stick, also bizarrely there was no peanut sauce in sight.
For the main course the four of us shared a very chewy 'Lazy Beef', a Snapper that was covered in onions and peppers with no taste whatsoever, a Lamb Massaman which was really oily and tasteless and a Thai papaya salad which consisted of shredded lettuce, carrots, 3 beans and a sprinkling of papaya drowned in sweet chilli sauce. I had to ask for extra limes and fish sauce as it was so sickly sweet. The fish sauce finally arrived after 2 waiters telling me that the kitchen did not have it(!). As everyone knows fish sauce is a staple ingredient in Thai/Malaysian food.
Overall we were all extremely disappointed, especially when the bill included service charge, and the waitress had spilt the fish sauce over the table when she was clearing up.
If you're looking for tasty, authentic food DO NOT eat here! With the fancy dress codes, burly door staff, poor service, and awful food Satay Bar is better off as just that - a bar.

Just had a fantastic time at the Satay Bar. The food was delicious. The staff were very professional and courteous. The place was really buzzing and the cocktails were smashing, What more can I ask for. I thought the prices were extremely reasonable and the portion sizes were absolutely fine. I would definitely go back there. Just a word of warning. Weekends are packed!

The Satay Bar has got a lot better over the last year. As a Brixtonite who remembers the good old days at the Satay Bar when the crowd was mixed and friendly, I have noticed a welcome return. There seems to be less bling and more local faces again.

The best thing Satay Bar could do would be to ban smoking- every time I eat there I come out reeking like an ashtray and struggling to peer through the murk. But the food is fairly good (I've had as good Thai in any bog-standard in Sydney) and Satay Bar is an easy meeting place for out-of-Brixtoners, being near the tube. The non-alco cocktails deserve a mention too.

The Satay Bar is a true find in Brixton. Two minutes from the Tube station it's a simple and stylish restaurant. The food is simply fabulous; I especially recommend the Rendang Ayam Chicken and coconut rice. What I like best though is the combination of the food and the Thursday nights live music hosted by First Love Musik.
Satay Bar is highly recommended.

Satay Bar is very handy to the Brixton tube so makes a good stop in for a drink and bite to eat. The Satay Bar is very upmarket and the prices do reflect this. The food is good, but don't expect much for your money. The interior is very classy and so are the clientele.

Cool as a cucumber, Satay Bar could be the shape of things to come! This hip bar manages to be casual, welcoming and stylish in the right proportions.

The long list of cocktails is alluring, and the Indonesian-style cooking here can compete with the best. Prices are moderate considering the ample portions and the quality. Service is informal, high on charm and helpfulness.

Overall, the Satay hums with an eclectic mix of Brixton's bright young things; even a couple of local coppers dropping in for a cappuccino. Recommended for a good night out, Satay Bar has both beauty and bite.
