Minus Seven Stars maybe....
I am going out on a limb to propose that the proprietor of this charming little venue actually gets a charge out of abusing her clientele.
20 of us chose this spot for its proximity to somerset house, where few open on a sunday, and for its seeming charm on first viewing.
WRONG. Take a cab if you have to..but go anywhere else. While the food, though mildly overpriced, was decent, the service was egregiously poor. And we are the last group that goes out expecting to make friends with the wait staff. We do, however, enjoy and will happily pay for, decent service, good food and of course, alcohol in most forms.
Several of us ate, drank and had pudding. Several ordered and paid for food only to be barked at 45 minutes later that the food had run out!
That group all went nearby to the Old Cheshire Cheese and were merrily welcomed and served and fed..including the birthday girl. We all ended up there eventually and spend a small fortune.
I think you can be charmingly cheeky and still be efficient..this is London afterall. But what we experienced was disgusting. What a complete waste of time, energy..and our money!
1 Star for authentic pub esthetic
Absolutely terrible service and attitute from the staff.
Waited over an hour for roast duck only to be told very rudely that they had run out of everything, therefore “the food’s off”.
No apology and generally very unfriendly. I would definately recommend people eat and drink elsewhere.
Don't go! I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go here again.
Rude staff, surly service, bad attitudes all round. The poisonous landlady clearly hasn't been laid in 20 years. I may go back once it's under new management, as the place itself is quite cute and quaint. Such a shame.
The Seven Stars
Vaguely trapped between the 1950s and a French café. Legal british movie paraphanelia and black and white bar pictures. A low crooked ceiling. An owner called Roxy. A pub cat. Genuinely good food. Espresso beer. I spent the whole evening entranced by the ‘A pair of briefs’ poster, which introduced Ron Moody. A crooked stairs to the toilets leading to your gran’s bedroom.
Truly this is the kind of pub in cityland to ensconce yourself in its woven chairs, its dish cloth table and make it your local.
Filled with bearded skinny types and the odd city suit. You get a ‘bye guys’ when you’re leaving. I think I’m in love.
The Seven Stars was dreadful. The most depressing visit to a pub I've ever had. The building's lovely and the beers are good, but the poisonously cliquey atmosphere soured the whole experience.
Had to wait 15mins to buy one pint - not because the pub was busy but because the barmaid served her friends as they came through the door, ignoring people waiting at the bar. Shame: the Seven Stars could be a great pub. As it is, it's only fit for wine drinking suits. Or friends of the staff.
If you are into an experience rather than just a pint, Seven Stars is the one for you. Top London pub for many a reason. Mind you, God knows what medication the person was taking (see previous references) who wrote 'all the staff are hotties'.
The owner of the Seven Stars is certainly a great charcater but the miserable cow (was she Irish, hard to tell when speaking in venom?) who served me needed a lesson in basic social graces, never mind customer care. Dreadful girl with a strange dress sense.
The Seven Stars is a cracking little pub with the emphasis on little. It's tiny, but has oodles of character. From the rather tired looking lino table covers to the resident cat named Thomas Paine, it's the eccentric English pub you'd find in tourist guides.
If you're in the area Seven Stars is worth a look in as an alternative to the rather overbearing Wetherspoon's down the road.
I love the Seven Stars. The staff are a bunch of hotties and they know how to work the punters thats for sure! The Seven Stars has got a great atmosphere and is a proper pub. Not at all what I expected in this area.
