I went to this restaurant on the weekend and must say had a completely different experience to the two previous reviews, except in relation to the older gentleman who I agree was pleasant. For a Chinese restaurant, the wine list is great, we had a nice Malbec and another affordable Pinot Grigio and weren't pressured into expensive orders, which is refreshing.
We started with some spring rolls, which were pretty standard. However, the main dishes were just fantastic. I really recommend the Ma Pao tofu and the spicy fish soup, which we all thought were great.
We sat on the top level and agree that it is a little more cramped up there, however, we were offered the option of the downstairs as well, which I would actually recommend requesting as the decor and ambiance was great down there (We took a look down there and had a cocktail at the bar before dinner.)
I think the service was good, had no problems at all with our waiter. That said, If anything I would say the food and the ambiance downstairs are the things to come for.
I can´t but agree with the previous review.
To start with, all Groupon users are automatically ´´downgraded´´ to sit upstairs where the tables are almost touching each other and overall, the decors are much poorer.
The waiters are arrogant ( with the exception of the older gentlemen who greets you at the entrance and is truly pleasant), and you feel looked down at, the moment you hand in your voucher. They can barely explain the dishes from the menu list and would only remember to take the priciest order made . Food takes ages to arrive if you don t order an expensive drink to accompany it ( beverages were excluded from the vouchers) . The dishes are served with a stony face; on a positive note, the quality of the main course meals is very good however rice arrives unseasoned and some 10 minutes before them.
We felt very tense during the whole dinner due to the proximity of the tables ( the upper ´´Economy¨¨ class floor gets packed whilst the main part of the restaurant downstairs is empty), and the feeling of the waiters staring at you and somehow impatiently waiting for you to finish your dinner...
Would definitely not return unless they change the staff and their policies.
Attended the restaurant on a Monday evening after purchasing a promotion via the website Groupon. I have purchased Groupon deals in the past and I would highly recommend using the Groupon website. However, this particular purchase can only be deemed as a disaster!
From the time I made the reservations the service was disgraceful, the manners of the person taking the reservation via the telephone were rude and abrupt. I can only assume that I had the bad luck of receiving the same ill mannered employee as the waiter this evening, as my waiter continued the trend of being rude.
When I first arrived the older gentleman who welcomed us could not have been nicer, greeting us with a nice smile and warming mannerisms. Unfortunately the niceties ended there.
The drinks were over priced (at £8 for a single spirit and mixer) and the waiter communicated using an unusual grunting technique. When I was trying to ask simple questions about the menu I had my questions unanswered by someone who clearly struggled to communicate and enhanced the difficultly of understanding by turning his back when he was answering our questions. Then when the food was served it was not served together, particularly the main courses as my sweet and sour chicken arrived 25 minutes before my rice. Therefore I had to consume cold chicken with my warm rice. I would add that when the food arrived it was of a good quality.
Then the bill arrived... they tried to over charge us approximately £90, but after a quick negotiation I believe I was overcharged by only £10 - which I was happy to pay to escape! After leaving Seventeen I felt extremely stressed and disappointed - I would not recommend anyone I liked to attend this restaurant.
