The ViewLondon Review

Hidden away in an area with no shortage of places to stop for a tipple, The Shaston Arms still manages to stand out from the crowd.

The Venue
Tucked away on a side road just off Carnaby Street, The Shaston Arms immediately scores points for location. The pub sits right on the street with a couple of small tables for early birds, mainly making use of the road for outdoor drinking space. Inside, the style is nothing short of traditional, with a small bar area and limited but comfortable seating that inspires you to stick around for one more drink.

The Atmosphere
Unsurprisingly for the area, The Shaston Arms can get really busy towards the end of the week, with Fridays in particular showing it off as a popular choice with local office workers. Despite it being almost inevitable that you will end up standing if you visit at peak times, the crowd adds to the vibe and makes for a bustling atmosphere that is best enjoyed if you are in a group yourself.

It’s best to plan ahead if you are running low on drinks as there is limited space to queue at the bar, but the service when you get there is quick, efficient and extremely friendly, with some staff even managing to remember what you ordered last time despite the volume of customers.

The Drink
Three Bavarian house lagers are offered on tap, all chilled to perfection and proving a refreshing tipple after a day at work or shopping on nearby Oxford Street. There's also a selection of well-kept ales from the Badger Brewery. There is a modest choice of bottled lagers and wines at The Shaston Arms, but you don’t need a wider variety in a pub of this size and what is offered is good quality.

With such a central location, you might expect to part with a fair bit of cash drinking here but thankfully the prices are pretty reasonable and the quality of drinks and service makes it worth every penny.

The Last Word
With a great location and a bustling vibe, The Shaston Arms is definitely worth a look if you’re in the area with a few mates.
