The ViewLondon Review
High on the success of their Hoxton and Willesden Green branches, Shish have launched a third branch, in Bayswater. The look’s the same: open-plan, wooden floors, palm wood chairs and tables, and a spotless open kitchen where you can perch nearby whilst watching the chefs at work.Shish Restaurant - The ConceptThe idea behind the chain is to introduce the average unchallenged British palate to the diversity of flavours that span the historic trade route known as the Silk Road. A modern kebaberie at heart, it specialises in predominantly skewered dishes from countries as different as China and Uzbekistan.
Shish Restaurant - The Menu
The menu is neatly divided into mezze, salads, shish and desserts. On Saturday and Sunday mornings until 4pm they serve a brunch menu of six exotic shish dishes, three classics (omelettes, eggs Benedict, pancakes) and five freshly-prepared booze-free drinks, best of which is the deliciously refreshing pineapple and apple cooler. The drinks are served every day. Shish also offer takeaways, hampers and daily meal deals.
Shish - The Food
For those feeling adventurous if mildly hungover on a Saturday or Sunday morning, the breakfasts at Shish are certainly a novelty. However, the nasi goreng or Asian shish of good honey marinated chicken skewers plus the mound of stir-fried rice it is served with tasted strange. The fried egg on the top failed to deliver that satisfying eggy hit, but a commendably fresh Turkish dough pastry filled with cheese and potato smelt good and tasted nice.
Shish - The Verdict
It’s fair to say that the Shish weekend brunch makes a healthy, more fashionable change to a fry-up in your local café. And the loos are nicer.
