Food was pretty good, cute venue, owners are awful though and management really bad, so it ruins what could be a great place. Lots of very annoyed customers around me. Gave it another chance a few weeks later just in case i went on a bad day, was going OK (not great) then we saw a mouse/rat run across the floor! NEVER AGAIN! Used to go before the current owners, and it used to be amazing/clean. What a shame!

We booked a table with more than 10 people, but because it was near to christmas they made us pre-order our food a month in advance. When we arrived there were only two other tables except for us so seemed pointless that we had to order so far in advance - this also meant that everyone forgot what they ordered anyway and made everything confusing.

Even though it felt almost empty in the restaurant we felt like we were rushed to eat and leave. One of the guests even had a waitress standing over him waiting to collect his plate before he had finished his starter!!

Because the starter and mains came so closely together we had to ask for a break between the mains and dessert rather than stuff ourselves with 3 courses in a timescale of something like 40 mins. When the desserts did arrive they were cold (the chocolate cake was supposed to be warm), so we had the impression they were made when we were eating the mains and had been sitting out and getting cold when we had a break.

The service was poor, the waitresses were not particularly pleasant, they didnt ask us if we wanted drinks for the meal and we had to chase down a waitress to order wine.

When we settled the bill our party split the bill, we all put in an equal amount roughly split between us. Bear in mind there is an 'optional service charge' that was included - when all the payment was arranged, the waitress had the gall to come back ask for more money as we didnt pay the full service charge!

The only saving grace was that the food wasnt really really bad - it was just ok.

But for the price.....

Lets say, i'll never go back there again and i'll never recommend anyone else to go there either. £500+ could have been better spent elsewhere.

I have been to Smithy's before and had fairly mediocre service. This evening, however, was absolutely awful. The staff were unable to deal with the pre-booked christmas parties which should have been easier due to everyone having to choose their meals in advance) and the manager was unable to even give an apology for cold food and slow service. We got our starters over an hour after we sat down, having not even been offered bread. Our main courses came 1 1/2 hours later, cold and the deserts were pitiful. They've lost a lot of customers today, simply because they did not have the ability to say a simple sorry and recitfy the situation. At every complaint all they had were silly excuses. I will definitely not eat here again

Absolutely shockingly bad service. I had booked well in advance, however, they lost the booking and claimed that I had not spoken to them about using the Taste for London card. We complained and they brought the manager over, who was just so RUDE and blamed us for her staff forgetting to book our table!

We waited an hour to have our orders taken. When the food came, it was nice, however, not worth £20 for a slice of pan fried fish and 1 potato.

The waiter did take off service charge for the rubbish service we received.

Do not go to this place!

Utterly dreadful service from beginning to end - the food was good but expensive for what it was. Will never go back - there are better places near Kings Cross for food and drinks where you don't have to remind the waiting staff for everything three times.

Don't want to give Smithy's a good review as I want to keep how fab it is a secret. Seriously I came across Smithy's at a x-mas night out and have been back a few times since. Apart from excellent choice of wines, beers, and spirits, the food is excellent the place is spotlesss has a great atmosphere and best of all the service is second to none. From staff who really seem to enjoy working there as much as we enjoy going there. A hidden gem can't recommend it enough. We have had 3 or 4 works nights out there since x-mas!!
Took my wife in for a meal one Friday night without booking we still managed to get seated after about a 15 minute wait but I suggest you book in advance!!

Smithys Wine Bar has such character - there's not many places around London that maintain their own identity like this place does. It's really nice to be able to hide away and eat in one of the little alcoves - like having a real bit of privacy. The food is pretty good too so I might make Smithys my new haunt. See you there!

I discovered Smithy's Wine Bar a couple of weeks ago and loved it. It's set inside an old Victorian blacksmith's with cobble stone floors and original ramps.

A massive wine board by the bar displays a great selection of wines. Ale and beer lovers have a great choice as well at Smithy's Wine Bar.

We've sampled some of the food which was really good, something hard to find around Kings Cross.

Definetely reccomended it for food and wine concious people.

Smithy's Wine Bar is an oasis in the heart of Kings Cross. Hidden down a little cobbled road it's full of character, charm and history. The food at Smithy's Wine Bar is wholesome and delicious (big chunky chips!) and the wine list is extensive and with some goodies on it.
